Hi Ray ( I hope it is okay to call you by your first name)
I was wondering whether you guys remained at the Cal-Jam to watch the complete line up, after you were finished with your set? I know that it ran until 1 a.m.
I have heard stories that when Emerson, Lake and Palmer did their next to the last tune--the one about computers over taking our lives ( **very prophetic tune**, by the way)--that when the "computer" was going haywire at the end of the tune, before it expoded, that the security guards and policemen, etc. were freaking out, because they didn't know what was going on. Since they did the show in quad, those sounds were travelling around in circles froms peaker to speaker in the entire area.
At that time in our lives, sounds produced by the moog were not frequent, so people were unfamiliar with the types of sounds being emitted during the conclusion of that tune. I know I will NEVER forget when I first heard that tune on their album.
If you stayed to watch the other performances, do you remember that, or, have you heard anything of that nature?
AFTER WE DID OUR SHOW AT 10:00 AM. WE ALL JUMPED BACK ON THE CHOPPER AND WERE WHISKED BACK TO THE HOTEL.AFTER THAT,EVERYBODY TOOK OFF FOR HOME.THE COOLEST THING ABOUT BEING ON IN THE MORNING WAS THAT THE NEWS MEDIA WERE THERE EARLY.THEY SHOT FOOTAGE OF OUR SHOW,AND THEN LEFT.WE WATCHED IT ON THE NEWS THAT EVENING.WE DIDN'T SEE THE REST OF THE SHOW UNTIL THEY SHOWED IT ON TV SOME TIME LATER.WE WERE ON THE ROAD AT THE TIME AND GATHERED TOGETHER IN ONE OF THE ROOMS TO WATCH IT. THE ONE THING I REMEMBER ABOUT E.L.P. WAS THE SPINNING GRAND PIANO.
