The tracks Rich lists are probably not all true Rare Earth.  Some are possibly ex Members using the name from around 91.  However the albums Generation, Tight And Hot and Live In Chicago are all the real deal.

Generation includes the original "Got The Feeling" of which the band did a fantastic version of on the "Different World" CD with Wayne Barracks on lead Vocal.  The original has PETE RIVERA doing lead.   The rest of the Generation album is most of what became "ECOLOGY", but........they are different versions!

Yes, they did record 2 songs with Stevie Wonder and the song RICH listed called "Bring MeTogether" is probably part of the Frank Wilson sessions.  Another song that has been mentioned before is "Funky Black Man".

"Your Heartaches I Can Surely Heal" .thers's a song for ya.

"King Kong"...............there's another.

"Aint Too Proud To Beg".........

In fact the Motown vaults contain many tracks that the band recorded over the years but have never seen the light of day.

Here is another unissued record and it was actually produced by Stevie Wonder it is a song called "LET ME LOVE YOU".......  Stevie produced around 3 Earth tracks that have not been issued, however they are in the vaults and have been catalogued.

Here's the unreleased material that I know of for sure. This comes from the liner notes for the 1994 Earth Tones, 1995 Athology and Pete's book:

1. any possible outtakes from Dreams/Answers.

2. the 1st take of Get Ready that broke down after about 5 minutes. The 2nd and final take ended ap on side 2 of the Get Ready album.

3. The Generation soundtrack...yes, a few copies leaked out. Generation (Light Up The Sky) and Child Of Fortune/One World have been offically released on cd though. Some of the songs did end up on Ecology but I was told they were remixed. I've not heard the album so I can't verify it.

4. The full 45 minute studio performance of (I Know) I'm Losing You that Normal Whitfield produced...from this he edited it down to a near 11min. album version and the vastly different 45 mix.

5. The performance at The Atlanta Pop Festival; July 1970...I believe Sony Music owns the rights to all recordings from the Festival. Ken Folcik told me in a letter that he remembered a camerman filming him playing. So, it sounds like their set may have been filmed too.

6. Any possible outtakes from One World (I don't think there is much in that dpartment from Get Ready or Ecology)

7. Outtakes from the In Concert album...as three shows were recorded (Miami, Jacksonville and Ithaca) I'm sure there's lots of great stuff on those reels. There's also the full version of Thoughts...man, I'd dig hearing that one. smile

8. Any possible outtakes from Willie Remembers

9. The 1972 Stevie Wonder sessions

10. Any possible outtakes from Ma...and the full performance of "Ma"...I hear an edit at one point on the album.

11. Live In Chicago

12. 1974 Frank Wilson sessions...Chained (45 mix and a longer version), Fun House and Fresh From The Can (a remixed and shortened version of Thoughts with Mike Urso on bass) have been released. Pete has said there were more songs done during that time, even a song of Mark's!

There were songs released as 45's that had different mixes (not counting simple edited versions) than the album versions:

1. Losing You (shortned and a vastly different mix)
2. Born To Wander (not drastically different but the bass is more prominent in the mix AND it's heard before Pete's vocal starts unlike the album version)
3. Celebrate (mono mix with different elements, edited slightly)
4. Big Brother...my 45 is different than the version heard on all compilations...instead of the high hat cymbals, it starts with a snare and cymbal crash!
5. Ma (shortened and a somewhat different mix)
6. Hum Along And Dance (there's a sax solo not on the album version)
7. Midnight Lady...a very different mix to the album version.

This is a great basic design for a Rare Earth rarities set :)

I DON'T KNOW IF THIS HELPS,BUT HERE'S A LIST OF THE SONGS THAT I REMEMBER RECORDING.ALSO,I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE 90-91 PRIORITY RELEASE.

"LET ME LOVE YOU". ONE OF THE TWO WE DID WITH STEVIE. HE HAD PETER SINGING JUST LIKE HIM.

"BRING ME TOGETHER"    "FUNKY BLACK MAN"  "AINT TO PROUD TO BEG".

"KING KONG". WE WERE ASKED TO GO INTO THE STUDIO WITH JOHN BARRY TO DO A ROCK VERSION OF "THE WALL",WHEN THEY'RE ABOUT TO SACRIFICE THE GIRL IN THE MOVIE. THIS WAS JUST BEFORE THE RELEASE OF THE JESSICA LANG VERSION.WE RECORDED IT AT THE MOVIE STUDIO AND WATCHED A PRIVATE SCREENING OF THE MOVIE. IT WAS QUITE AN EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH JOHN BARRY,AND THE MUSIC WAS STRONG.WE JAMMED ON IT FOR ABOUT 45 MINUTES.IT IS ALL INSTRUMENTAL.

"TIGHT AND HOT". AND LASTLY,"LIVE IN CHICAGO".

ON TIGHT AND HOT,DINO HAD US SOUNDING LIKE A DIFFERENT BAND.TOO MANY STRINGS AND HORNS.

I REMEMBER WHEN THEY RECORDED LIVE IN CHICAGO. WE PLAYED THE ARIE CROWN THEATER MANY TIMES OVER THE YEARS.CHICAGO WAS LIKE A SECOND HOME.BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHY IT WASN'T RELEASED.

Aha! biggrin from the mouth of someone who was there.

Now if one of us could lcoate a rare (no pun intended) test pressing that is said to exist. or better yet...Motown/Universal put this one on cd. idea

Too much to hope that there's even the remotest of possibilities that the Tight and Hot masters could become available and re-mixed minus the unwanted strings and horns? Unlikely I know...but just curious.

Besides the band, did any fans ever pass an opinion on the songs? Didn't it get released in Canada? I've never heard of anyone getting their hands on a copy so it must be as rare as rocking horse poo.

Tight And Hot was issued in Canada so it is around somewhere.

I know Richard was told it was in a Danish record shop window but he couldnot afford the air ticket haha.

I have got the single from the lp,  so RCA pushed that around.

It is said that the original tapes were in good shape before being taken away and tampered with.  I bet Gil, Pete, Ray, Mark, Eddie and Mike were furious.  All that work for sweet nothing.

It is the track King Of The Mountain from that LP that interests me as Pete mentions it quite a bit in his book.  I wonder if he ever considered doing a new version of it, now?  And was that track changed that much from those original tapes.   JockoD does not seem to be around on the forum anymore but I am certain he could have heard the original tapes at some point or was offered the chance to.

Those two Motorcity tracks from 1990 were more than likely changed as well from what the band put down on tape.

Of course Rare Earth recorded Reach Out I'll Be There for the Different World album but they also have in the vaults another version of it.  This has a date of 1975, so I assume Jerry La Croix sang that one.  Perhaps Ray or Gil would be good enough to confirm.

What about Sunliners unreleased tracks?

The Golden World period threw up "I Just Cried" for the Rare Earth Anthology CD which we knew nothing of ...I am assuming there has to be more?

Yes, I miss JockoD. His input to the forum was always worth reading.

I was listening to Different World last night funnily enough. I was thoroughly enjoying it and I once made a remark concerning the synth sounds now sounding a bit dated. I take that comment back. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it again and if the new CD is as good I will be a very happy fan!

Talking of which...I wonder how the new CD is progressing?

John,
I'm not entirely certain that there are any Sunliner tracks left from Golden World.
