I was saddened to read in the current issue of Record Collector Magazine that Jerry La Croix has passed away... Rest In Peace Jerry and thank you for all the great music you have given us over the years....
I was only listening to Back To Earth about a month ago Dave, as usual when I play that album I crank up the volume, sit back and smile, although I can't sit back with City Life which always gets my feet tapping, it took me back to when the album came out, as we know it did not get a UK release, so I got an import copy from a specialist soul shop off Oxford Street in London,£3.16 it cost me, not cheap at the time, but it was an import copy lol........
I played back to back Jerry's 2 solo albums from the 70's the other night , La Croix(Epic 1972) and The Second Coming(Mercury 1974) check them out Dave as there are some fine players on The Second Coming, I then dug out my Blood Sweat And Tears best of to listen to some more Jerry.(he was on their 1974 album Mirror Image)..What a great singer...
My introduction to Jerry was Edgar Winter's White Trash live album. I think it was called Roadwork? He was a fine singer for sure. Two of the songs that spring to mind are Midnight Lady and Keeping Me Out of the Storm.
MY DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO JULIAN,AND ALL JERRY'S FAMILY AND FRIENDS. HE WAS A GOOD MAN,A GREAT PERFORMER,AND HAD MORE SOUL THAN JUST ABOUT ANY SINGER I'VE EVER HEARD.
