i stumbled across My Friends at age 8, and fell in love!

Just wanted to share. When i stumbled across My Friends (on the Rare Earth label), at age 8 (!1973!), i was doing my first "dumpster diving". My mother was running our town's recycling, and I noted all these 45s (records) being tossed in, and was, naturally, curious. Well, i ended up saving about 10 records, and the 45 by My Friends was my MOST FAVORITE, even tho i recall not understanding all the words.

Well, needless to say, i'm STILL "an easy rider" (preferring bicycles and living free), so i thank the mostly unknown (??) musicians for putting out their single (?).

As soon as i have the electronic means (using public libraries still), i'm gonna get the e-version of their two (?) songs, as i noted that amazon has 'em for only 99 cents each! Whoa.

Anyway, i was wondering, WHO WERE "MY FRIENDS"? Was there anything written up about them? Is their a fan site? Do they have other songs?

Needless to say, my only copy of their stuff (the 45 record) was STOLEN when i was in my teens, but i've always remembered their lyrics (to some extent). I DO WONDER, tho, what the lyrics to "I'm An Easy Rider" was, because I've never, to this day, understood what the word "smithers" means in the song. Anyone know?

If you have any answers to my questions, please email me: spiritdude4(at)yahoo(dot)com. THANK YOU!

Ralph is the font of all knowledge on Rare Earth releases. I don't think this one got released on UK Rare Earth label.

Dave,

In all honesty, I'm not sure where the record got distributed. The band was being difficult and I think the sales department wasn't all that thrilled trying to promote a record for a band that was becoming problematic. I barely remember the record being released and think we had much stronger material than the song. But, things were getting difficult amd nothing was really getting completed. This is one of the big disappointmentsa in mt Producing career. The band had such promise but couldn't get past themselves.

In a shameless fit of self promotion, my book "The Road Through Motown" available on Amazon, contains session photos of the band along with the story of them at Motown.

Sorry, that was me Ralph. I posted anonymously by mistake. Embarrassing in the fact that I sometimes pull others up for doing so. Now I realise that posters, and maybe new posters in particular, most likely do it unintentionally. It's so easy to enter the text and then forget to go back to the "name" box. :((   oh well.

Still got to get your other book on your brother Russ. Can you remind me of the title? That'll be another great history lesson!!

No problem, Dave. I've forgotten to post my name more than once. You must be approaching my age, dude.

My brother's book title is "Russ Terrana's Motown". Hope you like it.

So far so good Ralph......no, better than good, much much better. It seems like I learn something new about Motown with every turn of the page. This was the time when I started buying records so its fascinating to read about the making of these songs. I'm still in the early pages of the book but already hooked.

Pete is taking it slow, as he should. after Dabar had passed, Pete was planning a trip to visit me in Monterey.
Real life set in and Pete has much to do to establish a new life for himself after all those good years with Dabar. I told him I would be around whenever he felt like coming in. We might even get a little recording in. Pete is planning on bringing some of the things he is working on. Maybe we can finish something.
