Pete Rivera - Beachfest 2012 (near Chicago)

Stuart this is especially aimed at you and possibly Mike.

This Saturday, June 16, 2012, Pete Rivera is playing an event called "Beach Fest" in Round Lake Beach, IL.

Check out the event website:  http://villageofroundlakebeach.org/sites/default/files/beachfest_web_flyer_3_1.pdf

I'll be there, buzz cut dark hair and goatee, glasses, tall. I plan to be near the front of the stage, but should be around after if they permit a meet-and-greet after the show.

I may not have this quite right, but I believe that June 16 is Pete's birthday. Happy birthday Pete. Miss you, big time.

Happy Birthday Peter. Three days after mine then (if 16th is correct). Hmmm, birthdays are not as welcome as they used to be ;)

Hey Chicago Tommy!

I shall be there and this time we must meet.  I'm 5'9 with black hair.  I'll wear my Three Dog Nite shirt (Rare Earth is in the wash).  I will also try to get as close to the stage as possible.

Happy birthday Pete! Looking forward.

BTW Chicago Tommy, Pete told me this will be the Celebrate 7 Piece band, not the unplugged...

I am jealous.

Not sure which makes me most jealous; not being able to see the brilliant Celebrate line-up featuring Peter.........or the fact that Stuart and Tommy both still have hair!!! What do they put in the water in Chicago?

What the heck, I've got the same hairstyle as Peter so I'm in excellent company ;)

Hey UK Dave,

First off, I have a feeling the hair thing is somehow tide to the fact that every March 17th (that's St. Patrick's Day) for the last 43 or so years Chicago has dyed the Chicago River Green. Now, I have no actual proof that the River is the fatcor, I mean their are plenty of folic-challeneged in the Windy City. Course that being said, it would somehow lend into the "City of Big Shoulders,"' well, not really.

Hey If I were you, I would have been more jealous of seeing Pete and his Celebrate group.

Hey Yous Guys,

Okay here, let's see, have been meaning to post a review and such here but Ya see it's like dis. I been working some long hours up here and ain't been able to get online a whole lot, sees.

Let's say there is a lot to compose and since I don't wanna leave anythang out I figures I wanna make sure dat it's all there.

Okay, the lingo is Chicago based, and it's cause like them Celebrate peeps thought I may be some sorta Wise Guy er something, I dunno.

The real review is upcoming, my work has me busy, but Wed, I'll make some time. Kind of seems like, "We gave it away. Their selling it back to us and now we're gonna pay."

So, "Get Ready..."

Chicago Tommy

PS, Stuart, it was nice to finally meet you. Let us know if you got any pics and your review, UK Dave and Al From Canada are counting on us.

Hey all,

Been so busy with work that I haven't had time to review.  First of all, I took PLENTY of pics!  I think the best way to share would be by e-mail.  Dave, I have your e-mail, Al, shoot me yours.  stuart.fischer@rcn.com

Anyway, as you may have guessed, the show was fantastic.  I'll start out with my only criticism would be that the guitarist was too loud and often drowned out Pete's voice at times.

Here is the set list, not necessarily in order...Opened with Get Ready, of course he did Celebrate (1st encore), Big Brother, Loosin' You (with some great improve on drums that I never heard him do before), Good Time Sally, MA (one of the true highlights of the show.  He really nailed it!!).  He did one of the new ones, forgot the title, one that is availble for download.  I was also glad he did Look What We've done which was fantastic!  Um, let's see, Born to Wander,  Tobacco Road (Fantastic again, another highlight), What I'd Say...

As I said, Celebrate was the first encore, followed by a duet of Ain't no Mountain High Enough with one of the Celebrate girls.

The real highlight, right before they did ain't no mountain, was when a birthday cake was brought out for Pete.  The cake was a replica of a turntable with a record (on the beautiful Rare Earth record label) playing. It was labeled Born To Wander and the artist Pete Rivera.  Don't worry, I have pics!!

Tommy, I hope you saved me a piece of cake...

All in all, Pete was as good as ever.  He was in great spirits andsmiling all night.  So much happy and positve energy and vibs.  He has not lost a damn thing in his voice!

Hoping Chicago Tommy can fill in some things I may have left out.

Stuart

Now I AM jealous. Sounds like you both had a great night. I was watching Celebrate on You Tube last night and it's like turning the clock back to 1971. It was Pete's oh so solid drumming that got me into Rare Earth in the first place and it's still as precise and solid as it ever was. as for the voice, well, I think it's better than ever.

The Rare Earth label cake sounds a work of art. Hope it tasted as good as it looked. :)

Beach Fest 2012, Featuring Peter Rivera & Celebrate, a recap by Chicago Tommy.

Pete did kick the show off with "Get Ready." Pete brung the goods and his group was right there with him. Tobacco Road, Ma, I Know I'm Losing You, Hey - Big Brother, Look What We've Done, I just Want To Celebrate, Ain't No Mountain High Enough, and I think I missed one or two hits here. An incredible show. Stuart, Joe's axe was a bit too hot (loud), but I think that was due to a number of factors. The opening act had the front PA board settings way off from what Pete & Co. had set-up during their sound check. Also, the weather was breezy when we arrived before the show, and as the night progressed the wind speed increased, literally carrying away many back-up vocals and even Pete's vocals were mildly washed away. He made up for it on the 2nd and final encore, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough."

Yep, it was indeed Peter's Birthday, and Round Lake Beach helped him Celebrate with a cake bigger than my first apartment. A (retro) phonograph player with built in 8-track. Of all the nights, that was the one which I brought my very own 8-track of Willie Remebers along. I think I had the JVC unit the cake was based on back in the 70's. And of course seeing the Big Brother lable a top the player made it perfect.

I did try and snap some photos but wasn't very successful, perhaps I have some opportunites at the Elk Grove Village show in July.

The rain began during the last half of the last encore, and by the time I was heading home, long after the show wrapped-up, it was coming down pretty steady. Truth is we were lucky, since the forecast was for the rain to begin much earlier, Pete did you perform a rain-dance backstage to delay the storm?

Rock On,

Chicago Tommy
