Hey guys,

Been listening to King of the Mountain a lot on my i pod lately.  I just love it!  That being said, I know the whole story behind it and the Tight and Hot album and how RCA and the powers that be changed the whole sound and feel of the album, much to it's detriment.

Can any of you give me your recolletions about how the song origially sounded before it's transformation.  Was it slower and funkier, perhaps more down and dirty?  What was the overall feel of the song, compared to the finished product I hear now.  It is still by far, the best track on Tight and Hot.

I've wondered the same thing Stuart. I often wonder what the demo of "King Of The Mountian" sounded like. I can actually imagine it in my head.

I recall reading it was what Dino Fekaris did with the material in between sessions (removing parts and redoing other stuff). Then Dino telling Pete he was "almost a drummer" (according to his book).

Many many years ago I was with Mike Valvano and he had an idea for a feel for a track. We sat and talked and I came up with lyrics called "It's a shame". Well nothing hapened with that idea. A while later RE was on the road somewhere and we went into some guys little home studio and played around with the track feel and I sang the lyrics. Well nothing came of that but when we were giving Dino some input as to songs we had, we showed him the song. Well I'm not sure how it changed to "King" but I think it was changed to meet an opportunity for a song in a movie. The demo was taken in to RCA via Dino and RCA gave us an album budget. What happened after that you already know. Since that time I have re-recorded the orginal "It's a Shame" which we call simply "Shame".  I have a copy of it and it was done with my current group of great musicians who you can see on my site www.peterivera.com.  Shame isn't on there but if I could figure out how to put the song on my site I would  That's about as clear as I can be about the history of the song.
