I was just looking at the time and cursing myself and this migraine headache I got, when I realized I had completely spaced out Peter's interview from earlier today. Thank you for posting a recording of that interview here so that myself and I'm sure others can still here a re-broadcast.
Hey Peter,
Good interview and I'm guessing you had wanted the begining of "Look What We've Done" to launch but, well technology is what it is. That being said, it provided you and Martha the opportunity to promote the website and you gotta think people will watch and hopefully purchase or donate to own the video or MP3.
I had made a donation to own a copy of each and have been thinking about the song. As you know back in 2007 I lost my administrative position at a major bank and then endured a lengthy recovery as the result of a icy road accident. Dare I say the worst is behind me. Monday I began working as a consultant (read salesman) at Libertyville Buick/GMC 9dealership) in Illinois. To top it off the place is family owned and operated - good people. Most of the new cars, crossovers, SUVs and trucks I sell are assmbled in Detroit or Lansing, Michigan. So, every time I tell a friend or family member where my career path has lead me, I proudly tell them, "I'm moving some Detroit (or Lansing) sheetmetal." I then proceed to breakdown the details. But everytime I say those words I think about Rare Earth, current and present members), as well as Motown and the many many talented artist who got their start there, both at the label and the city. Being the gearhead I am I also think about all the famlies past and present who have or had 1 or more family member working in those assembly plants, making their living and supporting and raising their famlies. I continue to listen to "Look What We've Done" and now proudly say to myself "Look what I'm doing."
Thanks for letting me spout-off here and for the added motivation. In the 4 days I've been working, my posture has improved, my self worth is returning, and my wife is very happy because I am.
Please don't feel unappreciated that I spaced-out your interview, but I also spaced-out the Chicago Cubs vs. Chicago White Sox in the now classic Northside (GO CUBS) vs. Southside (Sox) Crosstown Classic which began about 2 hours ago.
Just saw the video of Look What We've Done. Peter knocked that one out of the park. I sincerely hope it gets some promotion and air play. It would be darn well worth it. Fantastic song and as was already stated in an earlier post ....... "POWERFUL MESSAGE".
I was just thinking .......... and before some of you jump on me I already know this is gonna come out sounding probably wrong on ten different levels BUT, Ya know that song could have been adapted to a few other situations in different cities around the country Or in this case adapted to a certain catastrophe going on down south right now .............. Take one look at the Gulf and think ....... Look What We've Done.
John Lennon commented about his Happy X-Mas song that the song would always be relevant because there would always be a war going on somewhere. The same with Pete's. Your point is right on the money.
Terry: You are on target with your comments. I must admit that I'm not the one to write about all the situations of the world in one song. I did my best to point first to my own home experience with Look What Weve Done. There was a lot of conversation in my heart and head about focusing on one element of our national condition. My family were for the most part factory workers including me..(for a very short time on me). The collapse of industry in Detroit puts out waves of hurt across America. So although my home town is the focus for me, I'm sure that the song could apply to many other cities and people and situations that come up in out country. It doesn't matter where you areif you look around and see that things are going wrong then hey. Look What WEVE Done...
