Ace Percussionist JACK ASHFORD and his "Hotel Sheet"

If any of ya other *True Believers* remember, this percussionist for Motown's formidable House Band The FUNK BROTHERS played this instrument on Marvin Gaye's "GOT TO GIVE IT UP", as well as Diana Ross's "BABY IT'S ME" & The Originals' "YOU ARE A BLESSING (To Me)" (All from 1977)

As an aside, the uncredited 'phantom' back-up vocal on Ross's version happens to be provided by the co-composer Chuck Smith (written in tandem with Don Dunn [NOT the bassist from Booker T's MG's!])..who did leads on this ditty for *his* Motown band, The Friendly Enemies..on their lone 1978 Prodigal LP "Round One" (Track 3; Side "B")

The "Hotel Sheet" was also played by Ashford on the tune (and album) of the same name in 1977/8 or so..

*MY* queries I have about it all, are: Just *what **WAS** * a "Hotel Sheet"? Was the instrument actually, as the name implies, a sheet taken from a hotel bed? And how *do* ya **play** said instrument?

Inquiring minds wanna KNOW!

And mebbe The BROTHERS TERRANA might be so kind as to tackle *this* one....fer *obvious* reasons.....smile
