If you're counting the Sunliners days then yeah, quite a stretch. smile

Maybe Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have as long of a tenure.

But the thing with the Stones, Mike, is that they go years at a time without doing something, while Gil hasn't stopped in almost 50 years!!

Golden Earring have been together since 1961!  2 members have stayed the pace whilst the other two joined in 1968 and 1970.

Golden Earring are a Dutch rock band, founded in 1961 in The Hague as the Golden Earrings (the 's' was dropped in 1969). They had international chart success with the songs "Radar Love" in 1973, "Twilight Zone" in 1982, and "When The Lady Smiles" in 1984. In their home country, they had over 40 hits and made over 30 gold and platinum albums. Current members of Golden Earring are Barry Hay (vocals, guitar, flute and saxophone, member since 1968), George Kooymans (vocals and guitar, founder of band), Rinus Gerritsen (bass and keyboard, founding member), and Cesar Zuiderwijk (drums and percussion, member since 1970). Golden Earring have sold millions of albums worldwide, and they are one of the oldest rock bands in the world that are still performing today. 2009 marks the return of the band to the UK and the release of a new studio album.

Actually, Gil joined the group (pre Sunliners) in 1957.

Abdul "Duke" Fakir (born December 26, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan) is best known as a member of popular Motown act The Four Tops from 1954 to the present day. Fakir, who sings first tenor, is the only surviving original member of the group.

Interesting and vital piece of info..

As well as a *sobering* reminder (The last surviving member bit there) about *all* our overall mortality..

Speaking of the 4 Tops, I think they have the record for the longest time that four founding members stayed together with no changes.  the four of them were together over 40 years.

Impressive about golden earring...never knew that.

If memory serves the vocal group The Dells who formed in 1953 have only had 1 change in line up and that was not long after they started, and its been the same 4 guys ever since. I read a lengthy feature on the group last year and they were still working then...Don't The Ventures still exist with the original line up in tact?, and The Crickets  are still playing live with the same guys as day 1?.........
