As a Professional Recording Engineer & musician for over 40 years I have always deeply admired the tasteful sounding Octave effect used on Gil Bridges intro solo on the long LP version song Get Ready! Many times over the years Sax players have asked me to get that same sound for them in the studio. Many Octave Box effects are available today, but none sound as good as the one used by Gil on his recording! I know that back in 1967-69 the only Octave box available on the market was made by Maestro, their OB-1 & OB-2 units. This is one of those little things that I have always wanted to know!! Gil. this question is probably for only you, but could you shed some light as to what unit you used to create that INCREDIBLE solo? My years of experience say it was probably a Maestro unit, but am I wrong? So many young Sax players ask me today and I would truly love to know the answer! Thanks, and your sound will forever live on! Bill Christman
I beg your pardon, but, Gil was gracious and kind enough to answer a question just a few months back, when a few of us were trying to find out some of the lyrics to his song "Someone to Love".
You think your going to get a anwser here from Gil Bridges...haha
I've never met the man but he has participated here in the past. And has been kind enough to answer questions from us fans.
After reading Ray's post I do recall there being an effect to the sound of Gil's sax on the Ecology album. Mayeb it was a bit of compression on the sax track when the album was mixed. It sounds cool to my ears. Also, on the 1980 Harpo's disc, there's an effect going on with Gil's sax. It almost sounds like a leslie speaker.
WOWWWWW!!! I'm Totally BLOWN AWAY!!!! To have this question answered after 40 years of wishful experimentations is just WONDERFUL to me! All you guys out there, Thank YOU ten thousand times! Ray, What an honor to have you come forward and offer this info is amazing to me! And Steve,UK Dave and Mike, you guys are the BEST and I deeply appreciate your input and friendly acceptance of my question! I feel as if I've just met great new friends! I know we ALL have the deepest respect for Rare Earth and this forum is a true testimony to that! I will always remember the first time I heard RE and "Get Ready", almost 40 years ago, I went right out and bought the album! When I saw they were on Motown I knew these guys had to be EXTRA SPECIAL! And they just kept bringing it on!! Thank You Ray, Gil, Pete for your inputs on this forum! Please don't ever stop because Rare Earth still means a lot to many of us! Best regards to all and once again, Thank You! Bill Christman
You're very welcome. I hope we see you around here more often. I have had so many questions that I had, answered by Ray, Gil, and Peter. They all take time out of their hectic schedules to answer many of our questions. It is a great place to come to, and we all get along like family, here. All friendly people! Welcome aboard!
