Well hell it says 3 days ago that I last posted, a lot has happened in 3 days.No it is still winter in Canada, but I saw on CBC TV news that some one in the UK has invented a shatter proof BEER glass. DAVE!! Was that your idea? It sure sounds like something a fellow BEER BROTHER would think of.What I would like to see next is the no spill beer glass, that would be the invention of the 21st century. For those who live outside Canada, you may not know,In this country, Saturday is reserved for Hockey Night In Canada. So tonight like a a good Canadian boy I tuned into the game.My Toronto Maple Leafs played the Ottawa Senators,I muted the sound and played tunes through the game. To my amazement they did everything I told them while the music was on and we won 5-0, I can't get over it. Here is the music I played Diana Ross @The Supremes- Greatest Hits, Leon Russell- Best Of Leon,Elton John- Victim Of Love, Chilliwack- Chilliwack ( got to have some Canadian content after all it is Saturday night) Steve Forbert- Little Stevie Orbit. Oh yea like a few other of my fellow citizens I had a few adult beverages while watching the game. catch ya later!
No, it wasn't me. I'm more interested in trying to invent the self-filling beer glass :) It will have a sticky surface to prevent our greedy politicians from taking most of the beer away from it in the form of tax or duty. Whoops, better not start me on this one..
Superbowl today then. I'll put the TV on and stay up late to watch it. May the best team win!!
Dave The self filling beer glass, I can see it happening! I'll take a dozen. As for tax on beer, we are swamped by it here in New Brunswick.Go ahead and vent I'm f###ing p###ed of about like you are. A local writer did an article on that subject last year. It is the biggest reason that we don't have more micro brewers in the province.Your right it is superbowl Sunday, I'll be going to a party later this evening, plenty of junk food, pizza and the odd adult beverage. The game starts at 7:25pm my time so the paper says.As for the best team,I'm pullin' for the Colts. In honour of The Who, the half time show I've got Live At Leeds spinning now. catch ya later!
While having a few adult beverages last night put on a couple of LPs. The Beatles- The White Album Wings -Over America Of course at this time of year I am chief cook and bottle washer,I'm doing more of the bottle washing then cooking, thankfully. So I listen some tunes when I do.These CDs the last few times I made myself useful. Common Sense - Live At The Belly Up Tavern Gary Puckett@The Union Gap -Greatest Hits Elton John - Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy
Well today Feb. 15th is flag day here in Canada,( not yet a holiday but we have hope) on this day in 1965 the flag we Canadians know and love so much first flew over Canadian soil.In honour of this day I've been playing tunes from Canadian bands. Stampeders - Rubes, Dudes@Rowdies Ian Thomas - Long Long Way Zon - Back To Earth Lighthouse - Thoughts Of Movin' On Minglewood Band - Movin'
It is now 11:20pm on Friday night here in beautiful downtown Grand Bay New Brunswick Canada , I thought I'd stop by and say hello to one and all in the Rare Earth World. We (my wife and I)have been listening to some LPs from our youth, also having the odd adult beverage. When I say youth I mean from the early 70s,that doesn't mean we are old it means we have plenty of experience changing the records, right Dave?My wife just found a crack in the beer glass she has been drinking from, she just ask me if she took it to Apple Auto Glass they could fix it for her?So when are you guys in the UK going to export those shatter proof beer glasses? My wife just said she could use one. Here are the LPs we have had to change this evening: Three Dog Night - Suitable For Framing( Eli's coming an old tokin' tune) Grand Funk Railroad - Were And American Band ( my wife's album I think she bought it because of the inside photo) Lighthouse - Sunny Days (the song You Girl from this album I used to woo my girlfriend we have been married for 34 years, I think it worked) Steely Dan - Can't Buy A Thrill (An old party album, we had plenty) Rare Earth - Get Ready(my favorite RE tune Tobacco Road in playing as I type this. Thanks Peter!Well I think that's it, the time is now 12:15am bye all!
I lied I'm back, it is 12:40am, I just can't stay away. The reason I came back was I forget the album we first listened to last evening. Cooper Brothers - Cooper Brothers (as the song says "The Dream Never Dies" that's for sure) Now spinning: Myles @ Lenny - Myles @ Lenny( this LP is one that brings back really good memories from our days of innocence when everything seemed so simple) I suppose it is time to call it a night, from my wife and I here in beautiful downtown Grand Bay New Brunswick Canada we say goodnight to one and all in the Rare Earth World.
A break from all the aforemntioned festivities...as we plan to take this TOON-AID II on the road very soon...next stop, Omaha.
Ennyroad..
From The Much Regretted GEORGE HARRISON, Beatle Emeritus, M.B.E. & "ART OF DYING" from his 1970 Magnum Opus "ALL THINGS MUST PASS"
And IF you are listening to this (preferably the LP or CD version) through your 'cans'...you WILL notice that the *last, crashing guitar chord at the VERY end*....sounds EXACTLY like the tolling of a Funeral Bell....uncanny..
"MR. SKIN" (1973) by the West Coast ensemble that was SPIRIT, consisting of JAY FERGUSON, ED CASSIDY, and his stepson The Much Regretted RANDY CALIFORNIA.
Hitherto, the limp-hop, limp-hop, limp-hop organ intro has never-before-been-heard on LP or 45 Back In The Day...it is ONLY on current SONY/BMG CD compilations.
We finish for the day with some COMIC RELIEF (NO pun intended!)
"COME TO BUTT-HEAD" - BEAVIS & BUTT-HEAD (Voice Characterizations by series creator MIKE JUDGE) - from the early 1990's CD "The BEAVIS & BUTT-HEAD Experience"
"I GOT YOU BABE" (Written by The Much Regretted SONNY BONO) - BEAVIS & BUTT-HEAD featuring CHER; Plus the hidden 'bonus' track "COME TO BUTT-HEAD (Alternate Extended Version featuring hip-hop artiste O'POSITIVE); Also on "The BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD Experience" CD.
As an aside, when series creator MIKE JUDGE decided to give this SUPERBLY HILARIOUS series the ozone in 1997...so's he could devote his time to his 2nd animated series "KING OF THE HILL", I stopped watching Empty-V...OOP! We mean MTV...right afterward.
And just WHERE IS the OFT-PROMISED sequel to the 1996 cinmeatic classic "BEAVIS And BUTT-HEAD Do America" that we've ALL been FERVERENTLY WAITING FOR?!? (After all, the film grossed over $60 worldwide...WAY past the initial $5 million budget it cost to make in the first place!)
And finally...when it's 5/6 PM or 9 PM or so in the UK, and that means....uh, like, GET UP AND DANCE, and stuff?
Well, if it's The BBC News...*YEAH!*
Never thought I'd see the day when the Signature Tune for a TV News Broadcast would be consicered a club/disco technofootstomper.
But it sure as hell is in Holland, Iceland, Sweden and...I'm most certain the UK.
Sure beats to hell anything that Yanni or John ("Star Wars", "Jaws", "E.T.") ever did for U.S. NBC News, IMHO..
By the way, there ARE more 'recent' versions elsewhere on YouTube; Get 'em yourself! I personally like the crimson countdown graphics, so deal with it, eh?
Till Next Time...REMEMBER...
LIVE EACH DAY AS THOUGH IT WERE YOUR LAST, FOR IF IT DOES TURN OUT TO BE YOUR LAST, YOU WILL INDEED HAVE MADE IT LAST AS LONG AS THE DAY CAN POSSIBLY LAST!
My TV was on in the background as I opened the BBC Countdown file posted by Martin. As the file started playing it just happened to clash with the same tune simultaneously coming out of my TV. Turns out that the 10 O Clock News was just starting.
Watched the closing ceremonies of the Olympics on CTV last night, this morning I read where NBC cut the ceremonies short to broadcast a reality show. I was sad to hear that, so for those who did not see the finale you missed a great show.Besides Neil Young who was on early, these are the remaining musical acts. Michael Buble Nickelback Avril Lavigine Simple Plan Marie-Mai Hedley Alanis Morissette K-os It was a fantastic finish, the athletes from around the world were enjoying themselves and they are the ones who deserved that show, after all they put on a show for the rest of the world the last two weeks.
"You Sure Know How To Love Your Man" - WILLIE HUTCH
From the soundtrack album of the 1974 film "FOXY BROWN" styarring PAM GRIER. For the record, I did not see said movie...I just groove on this song, my ALL-TIME UBER-MEGA-ULTRA RAVE-FAVE from the soundtrack.
"Whole Lotta Woman" - The CONTOURS
The band came to MOTOWN in 1960..and were rejected after their first audition for Berry Gordy. Upon the strength of B.G.'s old pal JACKIE WILSON, the gang returned to do a 2nd audition for B.G. - playing the VERY SAME songs, in the VERY SAME order, with the VERY SAME musical arrangements - and got signed(!)
This 1961 single (MOTOWN 1008) was the first version recorded, and was regional only...not nationally released. There are apparently 3 commercially released versions...but THIS one is the BEST, IMHO.
"Heaven Must Have Sent You" - BONNIE PONTER
This is a 1979 (Recorded in 1978) update of the 1966 classic by The ELGINS. From Bonnie's Eponymous LP (The one with the RED cover. She had two ponymous albums, you know; The 2nd [And final one] was PURPLE)
To make a long story short, THIS SONOFAGUN ROCKS!!!!!
"Green-Eyed Lady" - SUGARLOAF
A Magnum Opus Tour-de-Force as led by one JERRY CORBETTA, who is also renowned for performing with Pete Rivera as one of the CLASSIC ROCK ALL-STARS in the 1990's.
As an aside, in the late 1990's, Yours Truly made a music video type TV/cinema featuring this jam for L'OREAL Cosmetics featuring, you guess it, their mascara products. You see, I got the 10 year contract (1998-2008) to make ads for them.. after they dug one of my 1986 student films. Needless to say, I *jumped* at the chance to work for 'em...as I knew it's a GREAT way to meet HOT BABES!
"Ritz" - STEVE HARLEY & The ****ENY REBEL
This is from the 1974 E.M.I. LP "The PSYCHOMODO"..Another Magnum Opus Tour-de-Force and was co-produced by ALAN PARSONS (Yes, THAT Alan Parsons, the Head Man of The ALAN PARSONS PROJECT; But, prior to that, he was a long-serving Senior Staff Engineer at The ABBEY ROAD STUDIOS).
As an aside, the electric violin at the end does NOT fade out on the original LP...instead, it plays through the run-out groove up to the centre label's edge, and continues ad infinitum....
"Shut Up And Dance" - AEROSMITH
This is from the 1991 LP "GET A GRIP"...and is a Prime Example of The-Hit-Single-That-SHOULDA-Been-But-WUZZN'T...for an obvious lack of promotion. Even though this was also featured, live, in the movie "WAYNE'S WORLD 2", GEFFEN RECORDS dropped the ball by NOT having this out as said single...not even as a promo for any radio stations. So sad.
FINALLY, I saved the BEST for LAST!
"Gimme Dat Ding" - The PIPKINS
This truly WAS (And still IS) an UBER-MEGA-ULTRA RAVE-FAVE o'mine! My Mum (G.R.H.S.) hated the hell outta this song. And Big Rich (Here on these boards) avowed a complete distaste for this ditty, too!
Guess ya can't please EVERYBODY, eh?
Still and all, I *dig* this jam!
And I bet SOME of you out there do, too!

A classic from 1970, The TOMFOOLERY Show was an animated Saturday Morning telly series (NBC in The States) was a cross between "Rowan & Martin's LAUGH-IN", and "Monty Python's Flying Circus" (Before they SERIOUSLY caught fire Stateside)..and featured classic characters from the Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear desks, such as The SCROOBIOUS SNAKE, The ENTHUSIASTIC ELEPHANT, The YONGHY-BONGHY-BO, The UMBRAGEOUS UMBRELLA MAKER, The FIZZGIGGIOUS FISH amongst others. The series starred cassic DOCTOR WHO actors PETER HWKINS & BERNARD SPEAR, and had SUPERB incidental music & signature tune by MAURY LAWS. The animation was done in the United Kingsom by HALAS and BATCHELOR, most renowned for their film adaptation of GEORGE ORWELL's "ANIMAL FARM"
Sadly, this BRILLIANT series failed to catch fire with the Public At Large, and ran for only one season. Was it ahead of its time? Or just too Left Field? YOU decide.....
Sorry Martin. For what Jeffrey Bowen did to that HDH Elgins classic he should have been sent to face a firing squad. Sheer vandalism in my view. Now you're gonna tell me that Ray played guitar on it I suppose?
Sure, Bonnie sings it well enough but the backing track is just run of the mill disco to me. I love some of Jeffrey Bowen's earlier work such as the work he did with Chairmen of the Board.

Nope....The axemeisters/plankspankers on that gem were Tracey Singleton & Benny Schultz.

Hey Martin/T3....Speaking of ALAN PARSONS....check this out!!!!
I survived another St. Patrick's day,we had a few green adult beverages last night and listened to some old tunes. The Babys - Anthology Bloodrock - 3 Grand Funk - On Time Three Dog Night -Suitable For Framing Eagles - Hotel California Lighthouse - One Fine Morning Lighthouse - Sunny Days Lighthouse - Peacing It All Together Rare Earth - Get Ready
Two from the 1977 UBER-MASTERPIECE that was known as "RAREARTH"
Both tunes composed by GLORIA JONES, herself a fellow MOTOWN artiste with a 1973 album. And, along with the rest of the LP, produced by Commodores associate JAMES CARMICHAEL.
"SHARE MY LOVE" (Co-written by JANIE BRADFORD, best renowned for co-penning [In partnership wit BERRY GORDY] the ditty "MONEY [That's What I Want]" for BARRETT STRONG)
"TIN CAN PEOPLE" (Co-written by BEVERLEY GARDNER; As an aside both can also be heard in their original versions by Gloria on her 1973 album "SHARE MY LOVE")
Actually, I'm one of the people who never found that song particularly offensive. At the same time I have to say I never went as far as adding it to my record collection.
Great to see the posts from Rarearth. I really like that album.
A question for you Martin, and all other Rare Earth fans. Just listening to Tin Can People for the first time in a while brought home just how much I enjoy listening to Mike Urso's bass lines. I was gutted when John Persh left the band as he'd proved himself as a major player with his playing and writing. However, I think the guys found a great replacement in Mike Urso. Maybe Martin would consider him an Uber Urso?
I don't know if others agree, but I felt that some of the songs on Willie benefited from Mike's basslines which he presumably came up with himself. Certainly I'd include Every Now and Then... as an example. I'd say that those catchy basslines were less evident or not present on "Ma" where Norman was calling the shots.

It *was* pretty sad when The Much Regretted John Persh opted *not* to move to Hollywood with Motown & the band..but instead remain in Detroit with his family.
But, yeah, let the congregation say AMEN to the fact that Urso was (is?) in the words of UK Dave an UBER-URSO!
Moreover his ultra-cool, ultra-hip look lent an air of cutting edge to the band..
Ya gotta give a listen...a CLOSE listen to "Chained" from the aborted 1974 Frank Wilson sessions for those aforementioned Uber-Cool bass lines.
"KITTY CORNERED" Featuring KITTY KUDDLES, a one-off character created by MARTIN TARAS; The director was DAVE TENDLAR & the Chief Animator was MARTIN TARAS (FAMOUS/PARAMOUNT, 1955)
Oh, and by the way.....can all of you find it in your heart to DO YOUR SHARE and WEIGH IN on the "RARE TREAT" thread (Original "SATIFACTION GUARANTEED" mix)?
It is 11:30 pm here in beautiful down town Grand Bay, I think it's still beautiful I can't really tell it is rather dark outside.-11c so the weather network says.Anyway this evening I was going through my crate of albums to find any I have not listened to in a while.I came across one I do not remember playing for not just months or years maybe decades. Silver Convention- Silver Convention (dated 1975),I honestly don't remember the last time I played this LP it may have been 197? others I spun tonight Men At Work- Business As Usual Chilliwack- Chilliwack Bette Midler- The Divine Miss M Bill Haley@The Comets- Rockin' The Raiders- Indian Reservation 1910 Fruitgum Company- 1,2,3, Red Light As I type this it is Neil Young - Harvest spinning on the turn table Dave Got a question for you, I saw a news clip concerning (noticed I didn't use about) someone in the UK who brought a book back to a library 45 years late, now that wasn't you was it?Oh yea it snowed on Friday Chomp!Chomp!

HI DAVE,
MIKE IS A GREAT PLAYER,AND THOSE LINES IN WILLIE ARE ALL HIS. HIS FATHER WAS FIRST CHAIR VIOLIN IN THE DETROIT SYMPHONY! OBVIOUSLY,THE TALENT PASSED TO MIKE.
ON A LOT OF THE SONGS NORMAN TOLD ALL OF US WHAT TO PLAY. HE WOULD HUM LINES TO EACH OF US AS WE WERE RUNNING DOWN THE SONG. ONE OF THE STRANGER ONES WAS THE BASSLINE ON "HUM ALONG". IT WAS NORMAN'S ALL THE WAY. TO ME,IT'S NOT EVEN A BASSLINE! BUT.....IT DOES WORK WITH THE SONG WELL.
WHEN WE WORKED WITH JOHN RYAN HE BROUGHT IN OTHER BASS PLAYERS ON SOME OF THE SONGS(REGGIE MCBRIDE ETC.....) THAT REALLY BUMMED US ALL OUT. THERE WAS REALLY NO REASON FOR IT. MIKE WAS AND IS TOTALLY CAPABLE OF A SOLID LINE ON ANY SONG. AND....AFTER ALL,WE WERE A SELF CONTAINED BAND!

RAY
One *chief* reason that "GRAND SLAM" (Where *oodles* of additional musicians made guest appearances...as opposed to the Ryan-produced predecessor LP...where the inclusions were utilized sparingly but deftly..) was (is) the least liked of all the R.E. LP's....
So Reggie McBride's contributions to Rare Earth stretched beyond his official stint with the band then?
That must have been a bit of a slap in the face for Mike. Not only were his basslines memorable, he also looked the part. Out of interest, have you crossed paths with him in recent years?

JOHN RYAN ALSO BROUGHT IN ROBERT ? FROM THE "GAP BAND". THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME I SAW POPPING BASS IN ACTION. HE'S REALLY A SOLID PLAYER,BUT ONCE AGAIN, MIKE COULD HAVE DONE JUST AS GOOD OF A JOB ON THE SONGS.
WE FELT BAD FOR MIKE,BUT GENTLEMAN THAT HE IS,HE TOOK IT IN STRIDE.
THE LAST TIME I SAW MIKE WAS IN L.A. IN THE 90'S. HE LOOKED GREAT! HE ALWAYS WAS VERY HEALTH CONSCIOUS. VEGETARIAN,AND WORKING OUT.HE CAME TO A SHOW WE WERE DOING. IT WAS GOOD TO SEE HIM. RALPH TERRANA SEES HIM NOW AND THEN. HE SAID MIKE WAS RUNNING IN A MARATHON UP WHERE HE LIVES.
ALSO........MIKE WAS THE PHOTOGRAPHER IN THE BAND. HE MUST HAVE A FANTASTIC CATALOG OF GREAT SHOTS. MANY TIMES AFTER WE GOT HOME FROM A TOUR HE WOULD PUT TOGETHER PACKAGES OF PICS FOR EACH OF US. VERY COOL!
Dave Saw that on the news , man that snow looked some bad.Hope you guys in the UK can get through it, I've got faith in ya. Also saw that there was some bad flooding in the Massachusetts and Rode Island area of the US, hopefully none of the RareEarthWorld people are affected. Here it rained for three days but the sun is supposed to come out for the weekend, here's hoping,it's the last weekend of my winter vacation I go back to work at the golf course on Monday.I'll be able to make my contribution to the stability of the Canadian government. The only thing I've listened to was Streetheart- Drugstore Dancer.Catch ya later!

RAY
Ray,
Thanks for the story telling, as always it is a pleasure for us to read.
Dave I just saw on the news that in the UK you have elected a minority government a hung parliment as you guys call it.There is something about using the word hung and politicians in the same sentence, ah I better not go there. We have had one for the last few years, our way of showing the parties we don't trust any of them.Believe me nothing changes they all are as arrogant as usual. Good luck! I recently had a US beer, Leinenkugel's Original, The pride of Chippewa Falls it says on the label.Good tasting beer. I picked up a cd a couple of weeks ago by a band from Nova Scotia called Matthew Pickup and The Movement - Persuit of Symmetry. Good tunes, I found it at a second hand store for $3.00, it hadn't even been opened. I can't figure why someone would buy a cd and not listen to it.Anyway my gain someone else's loss, they missed a good album. catch ya later!
Yeah we have a hung Parliament. You're right. They should all be hung after the expenses scandal and the debt they saddled us with. We rely on Europe for our gas, electricity, water supplies and our factories (and pubs for goodness sake) are shutting down left, right and centre. Still, these are small problems compared to those suffered by our friend Gustavo.
I spotted a new Fullers bottle on the shelves recently. This was an India Pale Ale called "Bengal Lancer". Naturally I had to sample a bottle or three. It was very palatable. You ought to visit their website www.fullers.co.uk and look at the seasonal page.
Matthew Pickup and the Movement are a new one on me. Sounds like you discovered a gem. Maybe they might have something on itunes or YouTube.
Dave Yea I've been working steady for the last month getting the course ready to open. We had some good weather and it opened early so we are at it seven days a week, but let me tell you the last few days feel a hell of alot like October, cold as a Ba#!#%d.Also we were without a computer for two weeks.I heard some sad news Lena Horne died, she was 92, that lady had a hell of a voice. As for government well here the local city Saint John has a bridge that needs $35mil. in repairs and the feds said no to them for the money. Just last week the feds offered $550mil to the state of Michigan to help build a new bridge!I guess I should check my passport I'm sure it says Canada on it.What makes this story more bizarro ( as in the comic strip) is that the riding is held in parliment by a member of the government. As I type this I've been listening to Flora Purim - Nothing While Be As It Was....Tomorrow. Some COOL JAZZ! I'll check out Fullers site, I am still amazed you guys can order beer on line!I had a couple of Sam Adams yesterday, a fine beer from the Boston area, oh yea and of course some Moosehead Pale Ale!Well I'll catch you later time to call it a night it is 7:55 pm I have to go to bed,I have to be at work at 6am.I better check my passport before I go to bed I my not get any sleep.I'm pretty sure I am Canadian!!!
Sitting here on a rainy Saturday afternoon, nothing to do but listen to some tunes Steven Bowers- Wanderlust, he's from Newfoundland, this is the first time I've had a chance to hear his music, I like finding an artist's who I have never heard before and getting a chance to sit and listen to that person's music. Jan Arden- Blood Red Cherry, a good Canadian girl, I've been listening to her music for years. Dave I got beer story for ya, here in New Brunswick we are bilingual province, which means any offical departments have to have both english and french signs. So..............NB Liquor translates into ( no word of a lie) alcool NB. What more can I say.
I was listening to some Roger Miller, especially, "King Of The Road," and "Walking In The Sunshine."
Then switched over from the hard drive in my car to 97.1 FM WDRV The Drive, in Chicago. This is when I heard "...Don't go 'round..." from RE's "I Just Want To Celebrate." WDRV plays a lot of Rare Earth - KICK-ASS.
Track 2, Side "A" - From the 1976 "WINGS OF LOVE" album. Produced by JEFFREY BOWEN & BERRY GORDY.
All of Side "A", by the way, is just a KNOCKOUT fer me...
And UK Dave, I trust that this kinda appeases you....after my, uh, transgression of putting up "HEAVEN MUST OF SENT YOU" prior..
But I *still* stand by my assertion that Bonnie's tune ROCKS!!!!!
One from MICK JAGGER & Co., "AIN'T TOO PROUD TO BEG" (From "IT'S ONLY ROCK AND ROLL", 1975)
I just hadda throw a classical piece or two in, as I *do* like to enjoy classical right along with my rock & such....
"HARPSHICHORD CONCERTO H420 I Allegro Spanyi - CARL PHILLIPPE EMMANUEL BACH (He was one of JOHANN SEBASTIAN's 3 sons)
"The WILLIAM TELL Overture" (Rossini)- CLAUDIO ABBADDO & The CHAMBER ORCHESTRA Of EUROPE (In 2 installments)
And you can skip the jokes about "The LONE RANGER" and all that, m8's; I've heard itn all before!
*THIS* one also has a MOTOWN connection...Well, almost. The artiste does, anyway.
"FIRE!" - The CRAZY WORLD Of ARTHUR BROWN" (Who had an LP, "DANCE!" on GULL Records, which was distributed Stateside by MOTOWN in 1975)
Every proud, self-respecting, card-carrying, flag-waving pyromaniac's anthem..
And now....
The classic "SQUARE DANCE" bit from "HILLBILLY HARE" starring BUGS BUNNY
This one STILL leaves me rolling on the floor laughing after all these years...
Director BOB McKIMSON (Along with his brother CHARLES [animation]) *really oudid himself* with THIS one!
COMMERCIAL BREAK
Ever have days like *this*? After that one disatrous thing that sent ya over the edge? Not just a 'bad video game'...for those of you that *do* such puruits..You know, dinner burned; bathtub ran overand came through the downstairs ceiling?
Got my cassette deck hocked back up and have pulled some old tunes out of hiding Jimi Hendrix Experience- Are You Experienced? Chicago Transit Authority- Live Beginnings Steely Dan- Countdown To Ecstasy Thin Lizzy - Johnny The Fox The Grassroots- Temption Eyes Brooklyn Bridge- Worst That Could Happen Heart- LIttle Queen Headpins- Greatest Hits
Sitting here listening to The Georgia Satellites- In The Land Of Salvation And Sin,(which is a really good album) while having a bologna sandwich and a cold Dr. Pepper before I head back to work for the last four hours of my twelve hour shift. Ah, the life of a golf course worker, start work at 5am and finish at 830pm. Hey Dave I've got a couple of cold bottles of Fullers Honey Dew and Picaroons Blonde Ale, I can almost hear them calling my name.
It is 2am here and I just finished listening to Rare Earth - Get Ready, before that it was Steve Forbert - Alive On Arrival, now it is the FM soundtrack. Been a long day with lawn mowing, laundry and dishes, oh ya and a little thing called WORK thrown in. It is amazing what good tunes will do for a person's energy level. So I should call it a night, goodnight to one and all of RareEarthWorld.
p.s. I meant to say hooked up my cassette player on my last post, don't ask how I got it wrong.
Dave I hope you are enjoying the world cup, it is on CBC TV here but I haven't watched any of it. It is not my game, it's baseball for me this time of year and of course the Canadian Football League which will starting soon. Go! Tiger-Cats GO! I did see a highlight of the England - USA game, that goalie of yours, are you sure he hasn't played net for my Toronto Maple Leafs?Reminded me of some bad Leaf goalies I've seen over the years.Your right, I should have avioded work today rained all day, rainsuit or not I got soaked.Though at least I was getting paid to be there, the golfers who were out in it today I cannot find an excuse for them. As I type this I have Lee Aaron- Bodyrock playing, NICE! Canadian girl!!!!!!!! Anyway catch ya later.
Just in from work I have The House of Hair on the radio, it is the tribute to Ronnie James Dio show.Tonight we are going out to the pub, it's been a while so I think I will have the odd adult beverge.Listened to some tunes earlier today: The Band - Greatest Hits Humble Pie - Greatest Hits Minglewood - Smokers(Best Of)
Well we survied the night out in the wilds, had a few adult beverges( pitcher of Moosehead Draught for me, my wife was driving , she has to work in the morning) made it home safely.Nothing like live music, I even got to dance a couple of times. Ok, no laughing, I can hear you Dave!Oh by the way Dave I heard that there was a sale on vuvuzelas, BUY ONE GET ONE FREE!!! I just knew you would like to know. It is 1am here in beautiful down town Grand Bay so I will say GOODNIGHT to one and all in RAREEARTHWORLD and will:
It is close season here in the Uk for football. The forums are a bit quiet other than rumours over which players might be joining or leaving. Somebody decided to liven up my team's forum by suggesting we might allow supporters to bring Vuvuzelas into the stadium next year. the first response arrived within 7 minutes. it said "If anyone sitting next to me turns up with a vuvuzela he'd better make sure he is prepared to spend 4 hours in casualty while a team of Doctors struggle to remove it from his rectum" :))))
As for England's (non) performance so far....... :(((
Dave The vuvuzela has made it to North America, last night at a Florida Marlins baseball game fans had them, not there are a lot of people at Marlins games, so there is no stopping them now.The CFL season starts on July 1st, my Hamilton Tiger-Cats play the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on the 2nd.I suppose someone will bring a vuvuzela to the games. If someone here had to go the the ER because of a vuvuzela incident the long wait to see a doctor will cure them of vuvuzelaitis. Yesterday the sun came out the sky was blue it was hot as hell and the weather network was calling for rain all day, so what do they know up in Toronto.Sat on the deck had a few adult beverages and listened to some tunes. Trooper - Knock Em Dead Kid, Motley Crue - Shout At The Devil, Alice Cooper -Live and a little Jimmy Buffett thown in for good measure. catch ya later
Dave I see where your England side won 1-0 at the world cup must make you feel a little better, and I forgot to mention in my last post England 38 Canada 18 in rugby, we'll get ya next time. Just in from work, a little rain but because of the Westfield Ladies Invitational Tournament we were not permitted on the course after 9am,so I got to work inside.Been listening to some tunes,April Wine - Live this LP I just got as a father's day present from my youngest daughter, also played Steve Forbert - Jack Rabbit Slim. catch ya later
Al England scraped through. I was working so i was unable to watch it, though I remembered that somewhere in the house I had one of those Sony Watchman TVs and located it last night. I managed to watch a few minutes of the match in blurred black and white on a 1 inch square screen when nobody was in the vicinity. :)
Since I got home I've been watching Wimbledon. There's a match going on between Mahut (France) and Isner (USA) and it's 57 - 58 in a 5th set tiebreaker. They've been playing 8 hours and neither player can barely move let alone walk. It's already re-written the history books and they're still playing. Amazing!!!
DAVE I see where that Isner won that 11 hour tennis match then lost in 75 minutes in his next match. He had to be completely sapped. So what are your England sides chances in the next round? Make sure that you tune in you state of the art 1 inch TV so you can watch their next game. Did ya here the big news? We had a 5.0 earthquake, north of Ottawa, just missed the politicans. Seriously though no one was injured and not to much damage.Got to go been a long day I haven't listened any tunes today BUT! For some reason I had that song It's 5 o'clock Somewhere running through my head all day. So as the song goes " pour me something tall and strong"
John McEnroe commented that Isner and Mahut had played for 8 hours on that second day which, from a fitness point of view, was a good advert for his sport. He poked fun at the football teams with 22 people running about for 90 minutes then complaining that two games a week is too much for them. Many a true word!!
England are now out. Mmm where did all the flags go? we had a good goal disallowed but no complaints at the scoreline. We could have let at least another three or four goals in.
Hope all is well after the tremour. Talking of which, I can't help wondering why our other quake victim hasn't posted for a couple of weeks.
Very hot Sunday evening here. My local pub is supposed to be cracking a barrel of my latest favourite beer this weekend, Kipling by Thornbridge Brewery. I hope there's still some left by the time I get there!! I'm not very optimistic though.
Dave Like a true beer brother a nice cold brew on a humid night always hits the spot. I would think you would be first in line with your refilable beer glass.Had a few myself this past weekend. I don't know if I've told you before that I make my own beer, I've been doing it for quite a while, I my not be Moosehead or Fullers brewery but I get to try different types of beer.I put a can of Newkie Brown Ale on Saturday. Oh by the why what the hell is bangers and mash, I think that what it's called. There is some kind of British pub thing going on at the golf course for the members in a week or so. Nine holes of golf, a pint and fish and chips or bangers and mash.More than likely something to do with the Queen being in Canada. As for the big quake, we never felt it here in New Brunswick, well it is gone from the news replaced by that stupid billion dollar G20 thing. Yea I wonder about Gustavo also.It rainnnnnnnnnnnnnned here all day I got soaked at work, there is that word again. Was listening to Flora Purim while typing this some jazz to dry me out and put me to sleep.2:50am comes early, so catch ya later.
Gustavo emailed me using his sister's computer. He is fine. His computer is out of action as a CD got broken inside his CD drive so it's had to go away to be fixed.
Bangers and Mash is the nickname for sausages and mashed potato. Enjoy!!
Dave Thanks for the info I'll sleep better nights knowing bangers @ mash is sausages and spuds. I will not be there at the function,I'm just a lowly grounds keeper,or as we were once refered to as mere grass cutters! it's for members and guest. Good to hear the news concerning ( notice I didn't say aboot ) Gustavo. If you hear from him again tell him I said hello As for tunes it has been only Canadian music today we went old school Canuckastan
Stampeders , Chilliwack, Five Man Electrial Band, A Foot In Cold Water, Ian Thomas, Triumph. All good Canadian boys
Dave Just checked out Thornbridge Brewery, I'd say you hit on something special.I watched the building of a brewery video. My favorite part was the sampling tap.. It even told you which beer was being brewed and at which brewery. Lord Marples at Riverside and Jaywick at The Hall. You know of course I am expecting you to sample all these beers from Thornbridge and you to report back.I know it is a tough job but I am confident you can handle this task. Sitting here with a ball game on the tube Yankees and Jays, 1-0 New York bottom of the 6th, GO YANKEES! speaking of going I'm off to work, so no beer for me for me at this time. catch ya later
Al I was walking through the Market Place this afternoon and spotted a vintage VW caravanette painted in weird colours. On the side it said something like "Thornbridge brewery Tour Wagon" or something like that. It was a promotional thing. I was just going to the bank and then intended to visit the display. Whilst in the bank I bumped into a polish girl who used to serve at my local pub a couple of years back. We started chatting and 20 minutes later we went our separate ways. It was only later that I suddenly realised I'd forgotten to visit the Thornbridge wagon. Oh well. If you saw how nice the girl was you'd have understood lol.
Thornbridge is wonderful stuff. "Kipling" is excellent and "Jaipur" has won numerous Great British awards. Lord Marples is good too. Having said that, I had a Thornbridge beer last week that I didn't care for. It was a dark beer called "Pollards" and it tasted strongly of coffee. imagine drinking stone cold black coffee and you'll get the picture. I must visit their website.
Dave I tried that address and got only a white screen. The video I saw was on their web site, some heavy duty lifting was done to put that thing together. What are the chances of sneaking in and using that sampling tap? I've had a coffee flavoured beer from Garrision's I think it was and didn't like it, then again I don't drink coffee. If I understand you that VW you saw before you did your Gustavo imitation sounds like one in Saint John. The owner has it painted like it just came back from Woodstock, with a big Grateful Dead emblem mixed in.No beer for me today I have to work this evening so have one for me or two or........ catch ya later
Dug into my cassette crate to find something I haven't listened to in a dog's age
Rossington - Returned To The Scene Of The Crime Johnny Van Zant - Brickyard Road
Skynyrd are a great band, but what are cassettes? I bought a Minidisk player when they first came out and told my friends that cassettes were dead and MD was the future. I've had to wear a tin helmet ever since.
Al, to see the VW, go on the Thornbridge website as before, then click on their Face book page. the photo is in there somewhere. It's called the Beer Bus. Hey, I just got back from drinking a pint of Jaipur, Thornbridge's finest. Couldn't have any more as I was driving and it's powerful stuff.
Dave Your story of the mini disk reminds me of my brother in law who bought beta instead of vhs in the early 80's. Oops another ZING! off your tin helmit.I checked out the BEER BUS and except for the sunvisor and the right hand drive, it could pass for the one in Saint John. Speaking of buses, if you ever wondered where all those old red double decker buses went to , there are seven of them in Saint John they are being used for tour buses, they are painted pink and the money collected goes to breast cancer research.I see that you have taken this Thornbridge beer tasting job seriously, proud of ya.Hot as a b!$#%*d here at least 30c, love it, to bad I had to work. catch ya later
been listening to: Huey Lewis and the News - Huey Lewis and the News Srevie Ray Vaughan And Double Trouble- Soul To Soul Rossington Collins - This Is The Way
I've been listening to a lot of Rare Earth while at work. Turns out my boss lkes to play classic rock for the customers and it makes works a justa little bit better. I've heard:

Hey!!! I was the guitar player in The B-Techs from Calais, Maine!!! Just wanted to say that I do remember you from that night and we really appreciated the support. We did end up selling a bunch of CDs that night, but alas....we broke up as soon as things really started kicking into high gear. We did a demo for Sony records but apparently they weren't impressed. Anyway, that was the greatest 4 years of my life and I'd give anything to do it again.
Well, tonight as I am doing a bit of reading, playing on my old and trusty 2006 i-Pod are:
1. Brian Wilson: Sweet Insanity (the unreleased follow-up to his self-titled 1988 solo debut) 2. The Guess Who: American Woman 3. Chuck Mangione: An Evening Of Magic Woman at The Hollywood Bowl 4. Pink Floyd: Los Angeles; April 26, 1975...a fantastic audience recording that takes you right into the crowd...it sounds almost as if it came from the mixing board.
Have been playing the new Doobies CD World Gone Crazy for several months now, its a cracking album.
Phil Collins Going Back, a great album also.
Over Xmas I played Rareearth a couple of times lol...........Of course during xmas I listened to loads of festive tunes, I have just put the CD's away till next year........
Sitting here listening to Get Ready LP, this album I bought at second hand store a while back and on the back cover someone wrote in ink which has faded a bit over time: side 2 1 Bass Solo 2 Organ " 3 Guitar " 4Saxphone " 5 Drums " I'd say the original owner may have been a musician.
I saw a story on the CTV news last night saying that there were plans to raise some old buildings and one of them was Ringo Starr's old home. From what I got that there were people who saw the building as a historical site and others as just old buildings long past their usefulness. The buildings I saw on TV were a boarded up row of brick homes,So you guys in the UK what gives ?
I've not seen that news item Al. All I will say is that my town (or City as it became in 1977) was wreched in the 60s when they knocked down some fantastic victorian and Georgian buildings and replaced it with a ring road and car park. Fifty years on, they are now completing the last bit of the ring road on the other side of the city...the missing link.
Last year they decided to build a massive new shopping centre and multiplex cinema in the city centre. it looks like a massive great grey coloured square box has been plonked in the middle of the city. It doesn't have any windows. Our planners have got no idea but I expected better of Liverpool.
Dave It sounds like the city planners on both sides of the ocean had the same plans. In Saint John in the late '60s they dropped the train station which was uptown and built two different ones at each end of the city, only to build a smaller one at the old site 20 years later, where today stands Harbour Station the hockey rink. They also built a new hospital which was needed but after using the old hospital for the athletes village at the '85 Canada Summer Games they let the building stand empty until it was so run down it had to be demolished. It was replaced with a cream coloured square box with no windows.Sound familiar?
Listened to 11th Hour - Tributes cd.I work with one of the guys in the band, this is a copy of the band's demo that they recorded at his home.He was telling me that it took them three months to record the eight songs, and that they learned a lot for the next time. They all have jobs of course and play on the weekends, all in all not too bad for a bunch of working stiffs.
Mike Just read your post, The Allman Brothers great stuff I love Statesboro Blues,so I pulled out The Fillmore Concerts CD and popped it in. Thanks man.
Mike Just read your post, The Allman Brothers great stuff I love Statesboro Blues,so I pulled out The Fillmore Concerts CD and popped it in. Thanks man.
You're welcome. This week has consisted of:
This Is The Moody Blues
The Doors: cd-r compilation
Lynyrd Skynyrd: King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents In Concert * very rare
America: King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents In Concert
Listened to The Playdates self titled cd,it is their first release. Not to bad if I my say so myself. They are a local band, how local you ask?My wife use to work with one of the guys at Canadian Tire and my youngest daughter went to school with one and air cadets with another.
Arena? The band featuring john Mitchell? I love his current work with It Bites. I've seen them 3 times in the last couple of years. Great band, and JM is a worthy replacement for Francis Dunner in my opinion.
