MIKE You did it to me again, after reading your Motown post. I dug deep into the music crate, found DIANA ROSS AND THE SUPREMES-Greatest Hits. Before that THE BEATLES- The White Album. My wife said I forget we had that LP ( DIANA ROSS). She just snapped on the TV and it is a show about ELTON JOHN, Me Myself & I.
By myself for most of the day, the sun is shining and yes the snow is melting.Had STEVE FORBERT- Jack Rabbit Slim, LEON RUSSELL- Best Of Leon on the turn table earlier today.Spent most of the day outside, it is getting warmer, just came in from the deck, 850pm as I type this it is THE HOUSE OF HAIRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Made it through my first week back to work, snow, so much snow.As I type SUNNY DAYS is spinning. Ah sunny days ah sunny sunny days, LIGHTHOUSE, got to thank them for that. Before that STEPPENWOLF- Early Steppenwolf, OTIS REDDING - The Dock Of The Bay, CHEAP TRICK- One On One,THE GOOD BROTHERS - Live, MYLES & LENNY- Myles & Lenny.
HEY!!!!!!!! Am I the only one listening to groovy tunes these days? Listen, I rely on you other GROOVY PEOPLE,(and I know you are all GROOVY PEOPLE) to show me the errors of my ways. Lead me on to the straight and narrow path, OK, shove me in the right direction. For tonight it has been a trip to the years of my wife and I's youth. I hope everyone will keep in touch I really enjoy hearing what others from around the world are listening to.I'm 53 and I'll tell ya, I would have loved to been able to do this when I was 20 or 30. That may sound corny to some people but man I just think this is RATE COOL!!!!!!( for all you non New Brunswickers that's RIGHT COOL!!!!!!) Catch ya later.
Today....another Alan Parsons LP....STEREOTOMY.....A real good album for you audiophiles...It was the first rock album to be recorded on digital equipment( not re-mastered but recorded) in 1984....then it was released in 1986....Man i will never forget that unbelievable sound when I put the album on my turntable...I was blown away....album still sounds good...
MARK You mention ALAN PARSONS,Saturday, I was listening to AL STEWART- Year Of The Cat, produced by ALAN PARSONS, go figure, there must be something in the air. Also BAY CITY ROLLERS- Bay City Rollers, I never was a fan of these guys and after listening to this LP I remember why. Just a little to bubble gum for me.Though I understand why they got as popular as they did. Now it is ELTON JOHN - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Man I tell ya this LP I bought when I was in high school and I am surprised it sounds as good as it does. Believe me it has gone through untold amount of parties over the last thirty-five years. The album cover has been taped together two or three times, but I wouldn't have it any other way, a lot of memories. YOUR SISTER CAN'T TWIST ( BUT SHE CAN ROCK AND ROLL) is playing as I type, soon to be followed by SATURDAY NIGHT'S ALRIGHT FOR FIGHTING. ROCK N' ROLL BABY!!!!! Catch you later. DAVE The weather network is calling for snow on Tuesday oh noooooo! Chomp Chomp

Oh I'm so lucky, I have been able to listen to some music. CHEAP TRICK- Cheap Trick At Budokan, ZON- Back To Earth, POWDER BLUES BAND- Uncut, RARE EARTH - Get Ready
Sitting here killing time before I head of to work, got some tunes playing an old CANADIAN band from the '70s HAMMERSMITH. Had IRON BUTTERFLY on earlier In- A- Gadda-Da-Vida and yes I listened to both sides of the album. Hell I know people who have never played side one. Time for some exercise have to change the LP. COOPER BROTHERS now," those ROCK n' ROLL COWBOYS are on the road again."Well I must be going have to go up to the golf course and make life miserable for the golfers.See, I'm the guy everybody loves to hate ,I'm the guy who changes the holes!! BYE ALL!
So MARK your FLIRTIN' WITH DISASTER are ya, don't lose your head. Got MATT MINGLEWOOD on the turn table, another good old CANADIAN boy."Long Hard Climb To The Bottom". Last night we went to a pub to see 11th Hour, a local band fronted by one of my co-workers. Nothing like live music, they sounded good, never had a drink the whole time I drove. Got home at 2:30 am. So today is my day off and if I look into the future I can see a few cans of Moosehead Ale some cool tunes. The lawn is mowed, the laundry is done,it is time to sit on the deck drink a few beers listen to cool tunes, OH NO ! the weather network is calling for rain!
Don't worry about the rain Al. Just think of it as warm snow!!
It was my birthday yesterday and was gigging at a wedding. I was driving so, like you, I had to forego the beer. It was a hot night and all I got to drink was a small glass of chilled water with a slice of lemon. We were that busy we couldn't find time to find the bar. Oh well, I'm gonna make up for it tonight, but without overdoing it, bearing in mind its back to the grind tomorrow morning
DAVE " HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU" At least you got lemon in your water all I got was an over priced bottle of water.Man it was $4.25 a beer I couldn't afford it if I'd hadn't been driving. The music was good no RARE EARTH I'll have to talk to my co- worker about that.As I type this it's CHICAGO 8 "OLD DAYS , GOOD TIMES I REMEMBER". Oh ya WARM SNOW!!!!!!!! CHOMP! CHOMP! I'M still laughing about that As I finish up it is a few of your countrymen THE WHO - LIVE AT LEEDS.You know I just realized I never left my E-MAIL address. So to all the great people of RARE EARTH FORUM SORRY Here it is lynnalobrien@gmail.com Oh DAVE have a Fullers Honey Dew on me.
Wow Al, Fullers Honey Dew? You certainly know your stuff!! Fullers just happens to be my favourite brewer. It's mainly available down south and I'm too far nrth but it occasionally appears as a guest beer. Their best one is Fullers ESB in my opinion, quite strong but a bit more of a kick than the most popular Fullers beer which is called London Pride.
When I visited the US a few years ago I tried some Brookyln Lager in the Oyster Bar at Grand Central. That was very similar to ESB and I was impressed. In fact it's available in bottles here in the UK but I preferred it from the cask.
They do some other "special" beers at various times of the year. The strongest is called Golden Pride and you wouldn't get through many of them without a thick head next day!!
No chomping here. We're just experiencing a Thunderstorm but its only a feeble one. That's what they call "tempting fate", especially as the house next but one to me was hit by lightning two years ago. Ten fire trucks were called to deal with the resulting blaze. It was struck at 9pm and the last fire engine left at 2am!!! I'd better be careful with my "feeble" comments.
DAVE Fullers products are in the liquor stores here in New Brunswick. Honey Dew , ESB and I think the London Pride. We have three different brewers in this province. Moosehead the biggest, in Saint John, Picaroons in Fredericton, Pump House in Moncton. As you can tell from my posts I'm a Moosehead Pale Ale guy, I'll tell you Picaroons makes good beer, I enjoy their Simoen Jones, also Red Ale and Blonde. They brew several others which I can't remember.I do recall a Maple beer. Pump House has a nice ceam ale also blueberry beer.As for the U.S. it is only a hour's drive from my place, I've never had any of Brooklyn breweries products, I have been on their web site.Down there it is usually Pabst, Rolling Rock, Sam Adams for me.I have tried a couple of Maine beers, Seadog and Gearys, good stuff. AsI was typing this I had APRIL WINE playing.I don't recall any band with beer in their name.

STREETHEART- Drugstore Dancer spinning now, DAVE have you ever had a ST. PETER'S HONEY PORTER? It is the beer of month on my calendar.I must be off to toil in the elements to brave the wilds, maybe I'll get to see Pepe LePhew again, na he's to smart to be out in the rain.

WGN-AM 720- the Chicago Cubs broadcast. When they play here at home at Wrigley Field, they almost always have a celebrity sing the 7th Inning Stretch. Plus if they win at home, the Fans sing-a-long to a local tune, "Go Cubs-Go."
Look I know this probably is of little or no interest to the fellow posters, but that is what I've been listening to, since it was asked. Its all tied up in the middle of the 10th inning.
Chicago Tommy, the CUBS, I use to watch the cubs,Harry Carey was one of the best. I think it was WGN TV we had on cable.I was right about PEPE never saw him, only ducks. I said hello, I yelled AFLAC! I'm sure the closest flipped me the feather!!Got THE JAN PARK BAND spinning now. Bye All
I've had a couple of St Peters beers but I don't think I tried that one before. Funnily enough I wastravelling back from a gig in the back of our old Mercedes van driven by our equally old keyboard player. I'm not sure whether its the van that's slow or the driver. I helped pass the time by cracking a bottle of O'Hanlons Ruby Port Stout that I happened to have in my clothes case.
I'm pleased Gil seems to be on the mend. E Coli is hell of a nasty bug!

Ahh, yes! "Go Cubs Go". From that "almost official party starter tape". I have a copy of that tape :)
Just happen to have a bottle of stout in with your clothes, did you now Dave? All I have in my old '89 dodge van, to pass the time is a book. Usually scfi, and no I don't read while I'm driving, I know that's what your thinking. Got EDWARD BEAR spinning now, this album takes me back, 1972,man I was starting high school. Things were still B/W then, one of my buddies uncle had a colour tv, COLOUR TV! WOW!
Al, here's the 100% true story. About 7 years ago we played this particular venue and our drummer went to buy a couple of beers. He used a £20 note and the beers came to less than £4. When he checked his change they had cheated him by giving him change for a £5 note. He quickly brought it to their attention but they insisted he was they were right and he was wrong. Paul knew he was right because the £20 note was all that he brought with him, plus I witnessed him handing it over. The bar staff closed ranks and were obviously operating a scam. Paul and myself said we would never work at the venue again.
Seven years down the line we are working for a different agent and he wanted to put us in there but the third member of the band, who happens to deal with the agents, said that Paul and I were adamant we wouldn't go back. In the end, the agent turned up at one of our gigs and persuaded Paul and myself to have a change of heart as it was under new management and our stubborness was costing him money and us money. We relented. However, out of protest, Paul and I agreed we'd smuggle our own beer into the venue thus ensuring they didn't get another penny out of us. I drank two bottles at the gig and had the Stout on the journey home.
Ironically the other member of the band, who wasn't bothered about making a stand, went to buy a beer and got undercharged. He never stopped rubbing it in all night!!!

Oh...and the fans hate each other!!!!! My area is the CUBS,WHITE SOX, TIGERS,....oh my!!!!! and BTW...Cubs and White Sox fans give each other a hard time too!!
Sitting here unwinding from a day at work, no rain today. It was humid even at 5am when I started, loved it. We don't get many of those kind of days.Last evening a buddy stopped by with some beer, so we were out on the deck, sun shining, nice and hot. Then it clouded over and started to rain.Undaunted I grabbed two umbrellas and we stood under them and had a couple of brews.Tower Of Power is spinning now, before that Def Leppard. I just made the mistake of looking at the weather network, it says rain for Saturday, Sunday & Monday. There can't be any more rain up there!!!!! I don't remember the last weekend we did not have rain. Time to go I've got to put a batch of beer on, bye all.
Tommy, you CUB fans must be a hearty lot, you guys never seem to give up. I know how you feel I'm a LEAFS fan, no more to be said. Just in from work, this is my 12 hour day, so I go back in at 430pm. Steve Miller is one of my favorite concerts of all time, I saw him in '78 in of all places Milwaukee.A regret I've always had is not going to WRIGLEY Field. Drove through Chicago, the highway took us past Comiskey Park on the way to Milwaukee. As I type this it is 38 SPECIAL- Wide Eyed Southern Boys, time to change the LP, OAKLY now they were a band from Halifax Nova Scotia. They use to do the bar scene in Atlantic Canada during the '70s.Good sound, sadly only one album was all they ever released.Time to get a bite to eat before I go to the golf course and create some havoc. bye all!

Hello all it is 1:45 am Sunday June 21st here in New Brunswick, both my wife and I had to work this evening. We got home at 10:30pm, put on some tunes and had a few drinks. Nothing to heavy, James Taylor, Otis Redding, Manhattan Transfer, The Pointer Sisters. you know old stuff. Mark Tres Hombres!!! Good album, love ZZ TOP, got most of their music, I must confess it is on tape or cd. I remember at a party back in the mid '70s when I first heard Fandango! I was hooked. I read that their newest has some of The Moving Sidewalks on it. Here is something to ponder, in Canada we pronounce the letter Z zed, would that mean here they would be ZED ZED TOP? Maybe, just maybe I've had to much Moosehead Pale Ale. Oh by the way Dave what's the name of the band,UK DAVE and The SNOWMEN? NEWS FLASH!!!!! I just killed a fly on my computer screen, film at eleven. Now I know it is time to call it a night, Bye all.
Exactly how much of that Moosehead had you drank last night Al? Murdering innocent flies .
We say Zed in the UK too. I really did used to say Zed Zed Top when they first appeared, oh and Linrid Skinrid for Lynyrd Synyrd. I didn't even dare to attempt Des Moines!
We had a TV cop show in the 60s called Z Cars pronounced Zed Cars. I can't imagine how weird it would have been to call it Zee Cars.
We are about to hit 90 degrees this week in the UK so I won't tempt fate by talking about snow. The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament has completed its first week. They just spent a million pounds on a new sliding roof for the centre court because rain stops play every year. Guess what, it hasn't rained yet. Every time the clouds gather the organisers stare at the sky with mobile phones at the ready, as if they want it to happen so they can justify the expense. Just think, we could have wasted that money elsewhere; MP's expenses, 2012 Olympics etc etc.
Richard is right about Glastonbury. The Boss was awesome last night and I'm not even a fan. The night before that I enjoyed watching Neil Young and again, never really been a fan.
Well Dave not enough Moosehead to suit me, besides the fly was trespassing. The rain hasn't fallen here like it was suppose to, just the odd shower. Been pretty clear during the day time, my kind of rain only at night. My wife had to work again today so I get to stay home and listen to some tunes, Alice Cooper- Goes To Hell, Boston- Boston which is spinning now.Of course I got to listen to Alice while I did the dishes, nothing comes free. Oh time to change the LP, Fleetwood Mac - Rumours. Good luck with the 2012 Olympic bill, it took us 30 years to pay off the '76 games in Montreal, got a domed stadium out of the deal, nobody uses it since the Expos left town. The Alouettes only use it for playoff games. The closest I was to it was I drove through Montreal while on vacation years ago, the Expos were on the road, just my luck. Now their building 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, and having money troubles, sounds all to familar. They should have let the Calgary people run the show the '88 games if I remember wasn't so bad. Still no band name? How about this, I remember a local band from the late '60s The Ruptured Duck Repair Service.
I grew up in a house where both the Cub and the White Sox were supported. I felt more of an alignment to the Chicago Cubs. Right now the Cubs are playing the White Sox in what has become "The Crosstown Classic." Cubs are down 3-0, you tend to get think skinned being a Cubs fan. If you ever get through Chicago again, I'll give a tour. I know the city pretty well.
The band is called Sydewynder. Not a snow mention in sight!
I don't know about amusing band names but a Welsh rock band called Budgie (do quite well in Texas I gather) had some good titles for songs and albums: Hot As A Docker's Armpit In The Grip Of A Tyrefitter's Hand If I Were Brittania I'd Waive The Rules You Are The Greatest Thing Since Powdered Milk Crash Course In Brain Surgery
Richard
Did you see Spinal Tap on TV at Glastonbury? it was broadcast on Saturday Afternoon. I love that first film they did.
Dave Sydewynder alright! So now when your rich and famous I can say I knew him when. Of course you'll be coming to Canada on your world tour? Because of Mike's list of bands he's listened to I've got The Byrds spinning now, I also saw Mitch Ryder there which means I'll be digging out my Detroit album. You did it to me again Mike. Tommy if I am ever in your area I will take you up on the offer. I have a sister and a brother who are both Blackhawk fans. Though my brother is also a ST. Louis Cardnials fan. I heard that the Cubs and Cards fans don't like each other. Time to change the LP. Focus- Live at the Rainbow. This the second try on this post , the last one I hit something and POOF! gone. Oh well bye all
Focus, now there's a band. I never got into their albums but I used to love hearing Hocus Pocus at played at parties in the 70s. Sylvia was equally good.
I'm not bringing Sydewynder over to Canada. It's too cold and you'd have me shovelling snow. Well, ok, the real reason is we're not good enough
We've just gone from sunny blue evening sky to very dark. Looks like a storm is on the cards.
Dave, I was just getting ready to go stand in line at Harbour Station ( local arena) to get tickets. I would have been the guy screaming for TOBACCO ROAD! Alas! My hopes crushed again. You know Dave I would let you use the snow scoop on the driveway. Here it has been raining, at the moment there is a calm but weather network is calling for rain the remainder of the week,so much for summer. I can only hope they are wrong. Jerry LaCroix who is spinning now says '' you'd be surprised at what a little bit of trust will do". I'm hoping mother nature is up to that trust. I had the same experience with FOCUS, somehow the live album always got played at a party I was at. I don't ever remember any certain person it belonged to, it might have come on it's own for all I know. Besides in those '70s parties the boozed flowed freely and the smoke was thick, purple haze if you know what I mean. Good Luck! At your next gig, drink Fullers for me, catch ya later.
With this being a U.S. holiday weekend I did a musical trip, Boston- Boston, Manhattan Transfer- Mecca for Moderns, Mountain- Nantucket Sleighride, Detroit- Detroit, Chicago - 8, Eagles- Hotel California, Tower of Power- Back to Oakland, Don McLean- American Pie.
On Saturday night I was in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee at the Patriot Festival listening to the Classic Rock Allstars Live. In the front row even. I have seen them multiple times over the years and I gotta tell ya .......... I am not sure what was up but something was excitingly different. No matter how many times you see a band or see a performance, even if it's basically the same one you've seen before .......... some shows just seem to be extraordinarily great. THIS ONE WAS. Something about the guys. Peter, Mike, Jerry, all were cookin'. Being a musician I noticed a few things that others would not. The keyboard sound for the audience seemed a bit under the level of the other instruments while it was obvious that Peters monitors were too loud as he kept motioning for them to be turned down. But ......that is normal adjustments to be made for the band themselves. OTHERWISE .......... Man that was the best show I have ever seen them do and they are always great.
One final note. It was the first show I had seen them do since the passing of Dennis Noda. He is definitely missed and I mean that in the best way possible and no that does not mean that the bass player the other night was not as good. In fact I was very impressed with him. I thought he did a great job and should be highly commended. He was not present at the meet and greet but stood back on the side while that occurred and I understand this completely but I would have loved to have met him and complimented him. He was fantastic.
How does one manage to top spending the 4th with those guys?
Your right Terry there is nothing like LIVE MUSIC! Now if I could only get Dave and his band Sydewynder to go on a world tour! I have been into some early '70s music Carly Simon - No Secrets, Hotcakes, Chicago- 2, 10.
Some overseas gigs would be fun Al. We are discussing the possibilities of some gigs in Ireland which would be a start. First stop Guinness, next stop Mousehead. Find me a window when its not snowing!
Al, every year our City hosts a Beer Festival. It lasts from Thursday through to Sunday with over 100 beers, plus wines, ciders and live entertainment. Fullers were part sponsoring the event and there was a special Fullers beer stand in the foyer. They were serving London Pride, ESB, Summer Ale, Golden Pride and Vintage Ale out of the cask plus these and all their other beers such as Chiswick, Honey Dew, London Porter etc in bottles. Pity you couldn't have been there!!
The window is open now no snow, no rain, SUNSHINE! Good luck on gigs to Ireland, not to much Guinness before the show, after well, that's a whole other story.1000 beers OH MY GOD! I can almost taste the Honey Dew.There was a Coors Light hot tub party at the golf course last night, put on by Molson brewery. I didnot get to go a 3am wake up comes early. They brew in Moncton I forgot to mention them the last time I told you about who brews beer in New Brunswick.I don't drink their products unless it is free, believe me the last time was in the spring, we got the left over beer from the clubhouse.Besides Coors Light is brutial stuff. Mousehead beer, you maybe on to something, drunk mice staggering around. Just finished listening to Chicago-5, Firefall-Elan.It is Friday afternoon just after 4, time to go back to work. see ya!
and of course, "Some Creedence, Man." and "The Big Lebowski" soundtrack - one of my favorite movies. I May even pop in the DVD later while I do some home-cooking.
-and that aboot sums it up,
Chicago Tommy
Aboot for my friends to and from the north, Ringo, Al, Ray, and whoever I may have forgotten.
Its a small world Al. I live 20 miles from a town called Burton-on-Trent which used to be the brewing capital of England. Coors, or rather Coors Molson as it has recently become, dominate what's left of the industry in the town. We lost some great beers and breweries in recent years.
By the way, it was only 100 beers at the festival, not 1000
Reading Ringo's post has set me thinking I ought to dig out and play my only Three Dog Night album.
100 beers, that's ok Dave after a few it will seem like a 1000. If you get gigs in Ireland Dave, I came up with a name for the tour, Sydewynder- ALIVE! AND ON THE RAMPAGE! Speaking of beer as I look into my beer fridge, which is with in arms length of the computer, I see no Moosehead, or Mousehead for that matter. July 1st was the first week of football season, my Hamilton Tiger -Cats lost to our arch rival Toronto Argonauts 30-17, I was not impressed. You see these two teams fans STRONGLY DISLIKE each others teams, to put it politely.I could use stronger language, but I would be deleted, believe me. Last night though my Tiger- Cats went west to Vancouver to visit the British Columbia Lions. We won 31-28, so Ringo how is it on the left coast today? Got to rub it in the Ti-Cats hadn't won in B.C. in five years. The Three Dog Night, I've listened to Suitable for Framing, before it was Chicago-5, Doucette- The Douce is Loose, with a certain drummer we all know of. Now it is Ross Neilson- Where I'm From. Tommy, are Styx and REO playing at the same venue? If not I want to hear how you pulled off seeing both. It is ABOOT time I went to the liquor barn, see ya!
Just home from work got ZZ Top's First Album playing, yesterday while sipping on a Fullers Honey Dew, a Picaroons Blonde Ale, and a couple of Moosehead Pale Ales, I listened to Jeremy Fisher- Let it Shine, Chicago- Only the Beginning The Very Best Of Chicago, Lighthouse- Sunny Days Again The Best Of Lighthouse.
I bought a couple of CDs by Elbow yesterday on the basis of liking a couple of their tracks. I was playing one of them in my car while driving home tonight. The jury is out. It's very sleep inducing in places so I pulled into a supermarket to get some fresh air. An unexpected bonus was finding Fullers ESB is on special offer this week so the beer will be flowing tonight.
Hey Mark! Nobody said anything ABOOT ( that's for Tommy ) a test, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! As I am typing it is ZZ Top's One Foot In The Blues. Dave I'll see your Fullers ESB and toss in a Tankhouse Ale and two Moosehead Pale Ales. At this instant in time it is ' SHE LOVES MY AUTOMOBILE' screaming out of the speakers.
The Beach Boys: Sunflower * My homemade cd-r of the album plus all outtakes Richard Wright: Wet Dream Pink Floyd: Shine On You Crazy Diamond Quicksilver Messenger Service: Sons Of Mercury The Lovin' Spoonful" Anthology Grand Funk Railroad: Grand Funk (2nd album often referred to as "the red album")
Sunday afternoon, I have the lawn mowed YES! . Listen to Allen Collins- Here There And Back, Eagles- One Of These Nights, Jan Arden- Living Under June, James Taylor- Greatest Hits & October Road, David Cassidy- David Cassidy, from Saturday morning to early afternoon. My Tiger-Cats won again! 25-13 over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. For all you beer historians LaBatts Blue got it's name from the fans of the Bombers, who would ask for one of those blue beers. At the time it was called LaBatts pilsner. I heard that Oscar Mayer delivers? How would you like a giant hotdog in your front door? Did anyone see that photo?
-Sam & Dave, Best Of -B.B. King, Live From Cook County Jail (Chicago is in Cook County) B.B. played in "the yard" to the inmates. At the beginning of the set, you can hear boos as the warden is recognized for permitting the concert. -Chicago Tommy
Lighthouse- 20 Greatest Hits, I found this double LP in a second hand store in Saint John just last week. I have a copy I bought when it was released but one of the LPs broke, so I was glad to find it. A K-Tel record, and if any one ever had one you know how cheaply they made things. Elvin Bishop- Struttin' My Stuff, I found this in a second hand store in Calais ME. the first of the month. Also inside the jacket was Bad Company- Desolation Angels, so two for the price of one. I was disappointed that I could not find any Rare Earth. There where boxes and boxes of LPs must have been a few hundred at this store in Calais, I thought in the U.S. I would be able to find some RE no luck. I even went through the 8 Tracks, ZILCH! I must admit I had a blast going through those LPs, some of them brought back so good memories.
How's it going Al? Well surprisingly the leaves are turning already here. Surely its a bit earlier than normal. I thought that only tended to happen if there was a very dry summer but its been a washout here.
Early Fall and then what? Get that snow shovel ready Al!!!!!
Hi Dave, things have been a bit hectic the last month. Between work which there have been some long hours, my oldest daughter getting married and my wife and I going away for a couple of days it has was quite an August. Got to see a couple of bands when we were in Calais ME. Of course the beer made them sound better, I think? As for an early fall, you maybe right. The local weatherman is calling for single digit temps for the north of New Brunswick. The leaves have been falling here also, I hate the thought of winter. As for my f#@%in' snow shovel it sits where I left it, hoping it will be a long time before I have to use it. So hows the band doing? Still getting some good gigs? I remember reading in another post that the RE web site is going down is that right or am I dreaming?Catch ya later. Oh yea CHOMP! CHOMP!
1. CAPTAIN BEYOND - Dancing Madley backwards 2. MANFRED MANN - Father of day, father Of Night 3. TEMPTATIONS - Zoom 4. RARE EARTH - Wine, Women & Song 5. MAY BLITZ - Fire Queen 6. DUST - From All Dry Camel 7. STRAY - All In Your Mind 8. WARHORSE - Ritual 9. URIAH HEEP - Free Me 10. RARE EARTH - Ma
It's raining here, the left over of Dan the would be hurricane.I think it's Dan, what's in a name. Anyway been listening to Jimmy Buffett- Changes in Latitudes Changes in Attitudes, Chris Bottomley- Knotty Bits. The time here on the east coast of Canada is 12:35 am, my beer glass is empty I think it is time to call it a night, well really call it a morning, catch ya later.
When I read your post about Jimmy Buffett it brought back some memories. You see I lived in south Florida for a time and saw Jimmy Buffett on several occasions, even had the opportunity to meet him.
I recall waking up early one morning, heading off to the beach and joining a group of people amassing. An unusual gathering considering the earl hour. As I continued drinking my coffee I realized Jimmy was playing an acoustic set and a local news team began covering the impromptu show. I remember he was promoting an upcoming tour. That was too cool, now I ain't a morning person, but damn glad I was that day.
Hello Chicago Tommy, you lucky dog. My wife and I both love Jimmy Buffett and would like to see one of his shows. For now I will have to settle for the Live in Angulla dvd, some day it will happen. I am reading A Pirate looks at Fifty, it has some good stories about his life, good book. Listen to The B-Techs a band from Calais ME. I got to see a couple of years ago. When I bought the cd they were so happy after one set they asked for the guy who bought the cd.I got up and the band gave me a hat and a beer holder. My reaction was "the guy ?"So I told everyone in the bar to buy a cd from them.I do not know if it helped I hope so,it is a good album.Catch ya later.
Funnily enough I was just looking on You Tube for them the other day. I saw them playing live in the 70s when they played our local College. Let's just say they made a good impression on me but I never got around to buying one of their albums. Then again, I was at that age where I had a long list of LPs I wanted to buy.
Why oh why did I post as SNAFU? That was meant to be the band I was referring to.
Two pints of Arran Blonde (5% ish) might be the reason. (Note for Al from Canada, add it to your beer list I keep looking out for Moosehead among the imported beers but no luck so far)
Um, it kinda sorta mebbe goes without saying that...for *me* anyway...The one Rare Earth tune that I *STILL* play with deadly regularity...is "Chained" from the aborted Frank Wilson sessions of 1974.
For me this past week, I dug up all of the old Chicago albums...from the 1969 debut (Chicago Transit Authority) to XI (11) in 1977. After that, I get off of the bus. The tragic loss of Terry Kath robbed the band, imo, of it's heart and soul. After that, the band really lost it's direction. That's just my 2 cents of course. Despite having a fantastic run of hit singles from 1970-1977, those albums have some "deep cuts" that show just how versatile of a band Chicago was back in the 1970's.
Mike, Transit Authority I remember it, Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is ? Of course when I first bought a copy it was an 8 Track! Nothing like showing your age.For me Jeremy Fisher- Let it Shine, Back Porch Spirituals,Goodbye Blue Monday. Dave I looked up Arran Blond it says floral hop and a new mown grass aroma. Thanks that's all I need, work all day at the golf course and come home and open a beer that smells like grass. I suppose next you'll find a beer that is made with melted snow. I'll look for it,hopefully find it. Moosehead lager is the one they export I think, look for green bottles, green labels. Moosehead Pale Ale is the one I drink, brown bottles red labels.
I saw these guys being interviewed this morning on www.WGNTV.com and then they jammed. I like some of Fictionplane's material but that is nothing compared to Death. Death is a Detroit based band that cut this in 1975. The name of the album is "For The Whole World To See."
Last Saturday night we sat in the kitchen listing to some '70's tunes while consuming a few adult beverages. Billy Joel,Cat Stevens,Crowbar,David Essex,Ozark Mountain Daredevils,Orleans,Ram Jam, Zager & Evans, to name a few. Music pounding out of the speakers, cold beer and wine( my wife had the wine). A couple of songs that got the night going were Norman Greenbaum's Spirit In The Sky( I think I still have the 8-track) and the all time classic Louden Wainwright III's Dead Skunk In The Middle Of The Road ( a song from my high school days, at least the ones I remember clearly).Catch Ya Later! I still do have that 8- track! I guess I never throw anything away.
