For me, it's the time of the year I do a lot of walking after I get home from work post 11:00 pm. I love winter and the cold temps anyhow. Call me crazy I suppose. The fresh air at night helps me to sleep better and it clears the mind. But I always take music with me to listen to. As of late, I've been listening to:
1. The Police: Synchronicity (and the outtakes that were used as b-sides) 2. Stevie Wonder: Songs In The Key Of Life 3. The Beatles: Revolver (mono mix) 4. The Very Best Of The Rascals 5. The Byrds: Younger Than Yesterday 6. Simon & Garfunkel: Bookends (mono mix) 7. Billy Joel: Nassau Coliseum; Long Island; December 29, 1982 (taken directly from the laserdisc). 8. The Temptations *Mike's compilation containing all of the hits from 1964-72...the original mixes! I don't like the stereo remixes of those 60's singles. The "ooomph" of those glorious mono singles like Ain't Too Proud To Beg is lost in the stereo remix, especiaily the bass! 9. Jimi Hendrix: Monterey Pop 1967 10. Alice Cooper: Killer 11. Bob Seger: Night Moves

It's 11AM on saturday I've got HOTEL CALFORNIA playing on the turn table. My CD player quit on me so I get to dig deep into my LPs.Maybe a little LYNYRD SKYNYRD next.I still hate winter.
Just off to play a gig with my band. We cover 3 Skynyrd songs, Sweet Home Alabama, Gimme Three Steps and Down South Jukin'. Man, the effect that opening guitar of Sweet Home Alabama has on the audience is amazing. Without fail it just seems to uplift the crowd. Great for getting us out of a hole.
Just after 3PM I've gone through SKYNYRD, LIGHTHOUSE now I'm on side IV of THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND LIVE AT THE FILLMORE EAST.DAVE crank out GIMME THREE STEPS good and loud.Up next for me I think will be MOUNTAIN NANTUCKET SLEIGHRIDE. At least it hasn't snowed yet.

MARK, the definion of a CANADIAN is a person waiting for a bus in -40 weather wishing they were in FLORDIA but never goes.I guess I like it here I just like to complain.Besides I get to listen to good tunes and shoot the **** with cool people from around the world. It's 6:50 PM time for a MOOSEHEAD ALE and THE JAMES GANG LIVE AT CARNEGIE HALL. The weather network is calling for snow,OH NO!
I play in two bands. I played with the other one the night before. The other one plays a lot of Soul and Motown, one of which is Get Ready. I hate the version we do. It used to be ok but its drifted into a very poor version. I keep mentioning that the definitive version is by Rare Earth but they just look at me blank as if to say Rare who?
Anyway, a few weeks ago I took my iPod to a gig, plugged it into the PA and MADE them listen. I didn't say who it was by. The drummer's ears shot up and he said "who's this version by? This is amazing". It was the original LP version featuring Rod and Kenny. Our drummer was knocked out by Peter's drumming and when I said he was also the lead singer he didn't believe me. It causes me great pain participating in the murder of Get Ready the way we play it and I just wish the drummer (who also sings it) would keep playing one night so I could continue into JP's bass solo off In Concert
Mark
I agee. Gimme Back My Bullets is a great song. A band called Skinny Molly, formed by Mike Estes (briefly a guitarist with Skynyrd) come to the UK every year. I've seen them 3 times and they always play that song.

THEY REMIND ME OF A POOR MAN'S LYNYRD SKYNYRD...THIER LEAD SINGER DANNY JOE BROWN PAST AWAY A FEW YEARS AGO...HE HAD THAT ROCK AND ROLL VOICE THAT YOU COULD ID WITH...COOL THAT YOU CAN SEE A BAND FROM U.S.

LEAFS lost again!P***me off, at least they try. A few more cold ones will drown my sorrows. The MOOSE is loose in NEW BRUNSWICK!!!On the turn table now is THE WHO LIVE AT LEEDS.What's that old ad about good friends and some kind of beer?Well newly found good friends it's 11:30pm and when THE MAGIC BUS comes to the end of it's run so will I. Good Night from CANADA.
Well it's -18 wind chill -24 to cold, I've got BOSTON's DON'T LOOK BACK on the turn table. It reminds me of warm summer nights having a cold one with a few friends. Ok, more then one but you get my meaning. WARM WEATHER PLEASE COME BACK!
It's still cold!A friend stopped by with a case of BUD so we drank it to the sounds of BOSTON, BTO, TROOPER, GRAND FUNK. I started on MOOSE ALE and put on THE FIVE MAN ELECTRIAL BAND.I'm off to a birthday party. Man It's MONEY BACK GUARANTEE! See you later, I'm like the song says FEELIN' ALRIGHT! HEY WHERE IS EVERYBODY????????
Back from the party that premium plus cracker comerical was on again, crackers falling from the sky to the tune of I JUST WANT TO CELEBRATE.Now that is my kind of TV ad!In honour of it I put GET READY on the turn table.I wonder who's going to use TOBACCO ROAD for a TV ad?Anyone got any ideas?
Wrap up warm. I can't imagine how the UK would deal with temperatures that low. These days the newspapers report it as a crisis if the temperature dips to minus 4C or we get a dusting of snow!!!
Who'd have thought that in the first two weeks of 2009 we'd hear both I Just Want to Celebrate AND Hey Big Brother eminating from our TV sets for different ads. Just goes to show, they don't make them like they used to lol.
Well, I am listening to a lot of Bing Crosby these days. I found a recording of "Autumn in New York" by Bing, on the last album he recorded before he passed away, called "Seasons". I have to say that no one sings the tune better. I really get sick of the same old stuff, so, am versatile in my listening. I must be showing my age, because I am really listening to less and less rock music these days.
I do have to say though, that it is at this particular time of the year that I listen to RE the most. When the "In Concert" album was released, I purchased it in the latter part of January or early February. I can't recall when the album was actually released, but, I know it was a while before I could actually get it ( I think it cost $6.99 at the time) because as a 15 year old kid, I didn't have the cash, so, sold a snare drum which I got $15.00 for. I rushed out to get my copy, and played it steadily, for the next few months. During the winter months, there wasn't much else to do BUT listen to records, at that age!
Anyway...this time of the year always makes me think back to the time when I bought that album.
Maybe we ought to start a thread on what time of the year we bought the RE albums. I can remember exactly where I was and what I was doing at the time I bought all of them!
Your not showing your age Steve...LOL!! Hey..I'll listen to Blue Eyes every now and then!!...My parents were Rare Earth fans,so we had the first four albums.....So i remember one x-mas i got W.R. and MA...The eight tracks!!! Ah....the memories....
Hello Dave it's warmed up a bit but it snowed all day Sunday so I spent 3 hrs shoveling snow in my yard then another 4 1/2 hrs at the old age home.25 cms the weather man said then freezing rain so everything is covered in ice. When I got home I needed to see something warm so I put on Jimmy Buffet live dvd. All that sunshine and people wearing t's and shorts and woman a hell of alot less. I can only hope warm weather comes back.
Thanks, Mark. I have been a Bing Crosby fan all of my life. Rosemary Clooney, Danny Kaye--all of them. It was their style of music that are my first memories of music, due to my parents great taste in music. Don't laugh, but, the Ray Conniff Orchestra was my first ever memory, ever, of what got me interested in actually *performing* music. It was the ' S Marvelous album that grabbed me. Then, when the Beatles hit the charts...well, you take it from there. Then, in 1969, when the Get Ready album came out--WOW! What a DRUMMER! "Fastest-feet-Pete" came into my life, and I was never the same! Pete, I'll NEVER stop talking about your feet, as long as I live. I probably know them better than you know them, yourself!
Anyway...I love to think back on where I was, when I bought each album. It was one of those things in life that never leave you, and the memories are very warm, for me.
Steve Nothing wrong with Bing, I've a couple of Benny Goodman LPs and a Glen miller LP & a CD, cool sounds. Also I got to see THE GLEN MILLER ORCHESTRA back in 2006 when they came to town. If you ever get a chance to see one of their shows I highly recomend it.Got a question how many of Bing's road movies have you seen?
I havn't been listening to so much lately, but here goes:
Raspberries greatest Procol Harum (1st album) The Fireman's new one Fill Your Head (It's been great hearing some lost gems again that I haven't heard in a long time) White City-Pete Townsend Ringo's X-mas album a lot during the holidays
Nylon Curtain Billy Joel. I forgot what a great album that was. Very Beatlesqe. When Julian Lennon was ready to record his first album in 1984 he wanted Billy's producer Phil Ramone to produce based on his work on Nylon Curtain. Julian loved the sound and feel of the album...and so do I.
PENDRAGON - PURE PALLAS - DREAMS OF MEN RARE EARTH - A BRAND NEW WORLD STRAY - VALHALLA GLENN HUGHES - FIRST UNDERGROUND NUCLEAR KITCHEN JUDAS PRIEST - NOSTRADAMUS SAVOY BROWN - GETTING TO THE POINT DEAN REES - SWEET FELICITY ARKWRIGHT
Interesting selections. Would this be the same Stray that played at my local college in 1975 by any chance? I was laid up that day having broken my ankle playing football a week earlier. My friends came to visit and were only too pleased to let me know I'd missed an awesome performance by Del Bronham and co. Now, almost 34 years later, Stray are coming back to town next month in a double bill with The Groundhogs. I never saw the Groundhogs neither, though I once arrived at the venue to meet people leaving because they were just painfully loud. They must have been excessively loud because these were seasoned Deep Purple fans!! I'm looking forward to belatedly seeing these bands.
Glenn Hughes too. Can't be bad. I'm not as keen on First Underground Nuclear Kitchen as some of his other stuff but I'm hoping to go over to the Robin at Bilston in June when he's playing a complete Trapeze set in memory of Mel Galley who dies recently.
Glad to see Brand New World on your list. I've been playing the CD a lot in my car in recent weeks.
Finally, interesting gig coming up in St Albans in February..Verity, Henrit and Rodford playing together for the first time in a long while!!
Yes it is the very same STRAY with Del Bromham and they are rockin! I saw them on saturday with the Groundhogs at The Stables Theatre in Wavendon and it was great. Valhalla is their new album.
A Brand New World is always on, LOVE IT!
St Albans eh.....I will go check that now, sounds promising.
Saturday night my wife and I went to see Ellen Mcilwaine at the Imperial Theatre in Saint John. She had Michelle Josef on drums and Suzie Vinnick on bass.I've never seen anyone play guitar like her.The program said "Herewith a list of the three greatest women slide guitar players in the universe. 1 Ellen Mcilwaine, 2 Ellen Mcilwaine,3 Ellen Mcilwaine. In my humble opinion I agree. If you ever get a chance to see this lady play, GO!
It's 3:50 pm and there is a wack of snow coming. Grand Funk's ON TIME is spinning on the turn table. I just looked out the window it's started snowing looks like another 20 to 30 cm of the damn stuff, which means 3hrs of shoveling in the morning.Time for some exercise, got to turn the LP over.
Got back from shoveling more snow, that stuff should be against the law.I've kicked back and have TOWER of POWER's Back to Oakland on the turn table.It's7:50pm and few cold moosehead ale's sound good right about now.
Thanks to a fellow friend, I've been sifting through my Jimi Hendrix stuff. This week I put together a 2 cd set of The Experience's 1968 Winterland performances to play in the car.
Also:
The Very Best Of The Spinners The Very Best Of Sam & Dave Neil Young: Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
Ten Years After's A Space of Time is spinning on the turn table now "Once There Was a Time"as the song says I do remember something called summer, or am I just dreaming because the damn 15cm of snow I shoveled this morning makes me believe there is only endless winter.HELP!!!!!!!!!Is there anybody out there that can prove the existence of this thing called SUMMER?
Well today i put on JOEL'S "THE STRANGER"....Forgot how good that album is!!!!....Then put on EX- EAGLES, DON FELDER'S AIRBORNE album!! Felder should have more albums,IMO...Till then gang ...Rock on!!
Mark I've got an LP from a band called FLOW, the album's of the same name.Don Felder is the guitar player, it was recored on Dec 17 18 1969 Jan 20 22 1970, so the back cover notes say.I've got it playing now, a JAZZ feel to it .Other band members : Chuck Newcomb - bass/lead vocals, John Winter-piano/organ/sax/flute/harmonica,Mike Barnett-drums,Ed Shaughnessy-tabla/conga/cowbell,Johnny Paeheco-angel allende.
I was surfing E-bay and came across a band called FOOL'S GOLD...They were DAN FOGELBERG'S Band and they have DON FELDER and JOE WALSH session for them..GLENN FREY shows up as well...The album was cut 1976..
I was thinking of bidding on it....sorry guys I know this is a rare earth forum but I seem to drift off now and then
Mark I did some digging on FOOL's GOLD, they had two albums. The self titled FOOL's GOLD Jan 1 1976, Mr LUCKY JAN 1 1977, both are on CD but an LP would be cool. They were Fogelberg's back up band, with some help from Walsh, Felder, Frey who played on the album. For me now it's Jimmy Buffett, grovin' to " Captain America".Something else I saw today at the local Zellers store, a couple of '70's rock CDs those various artist ones. Each had a RARE EARTH songs GET READY on one,I JUST TO CELEBRATE on the other.
I've been spinning some stuff while I am hurrying to copy the rest of the cd's for the project...since I have all flaws fixed for the project.
1. This Is The Moody Blues * Fantastic collection that was unique in some ways. Yes, if you were a fan you had the material. But the songs were remixed (not drastically) for the compilation in 1974 and all songs flow together. I love it. Worth seeking out, eventhough it is out of print.
2. Love: Forever Changes *
3. Neil Young: Weld *The audio taken from the laserdisc. It's a much better MIX than the 2 cd set.
I've got Gerry LaCroix spinning now, before I had Steve Forbert's LITTLE STEVIE ORBIT on the turn table. The fog rolled in I can almost hear the snow melting.
I'm giving my 2 LP set of "Edgar Winter's White Trash: Roadwork" a spin. Man, Jerry really lets loose on songs like "Jive Jive Jive", "Turn You You Loose", "Do Yourself A Favor" and "Turn On Your Love Light". And he also gets in his fair share of sax playing too. I've loved this double album since I was 8. Jerry LaCroix...vastly underrated.
Mike I believe you......THOUSANDS...........MILLIONS wouldn't. I do!Your right Jerry LaCroix very underrated. His LaCroix LP is one of my all time favorites.I've just finished listening to Bob McBride's ....HERE TO SING from '78 a little mellow, the guy had a great voice, it is hard to believe he's been dead for over 10 years.Anyway I've got MASHMAKHAN on the turn table now.Hey does anybody remember them?I remember when their hit AS THE YEARS GO BY was a staple on CFBC the local AM radio station in the early '70's.
Friday night we went to the local BACKSTREET RECORDS store to some live music.Had a great time got to a raggie band from TORONTO called HOUSE of DAVID GANG.Also 2/3rds of 16th AVENUE a local band which we know one of the guys.So it was good to hear them again.Between sets I went through some of the albums.I found and bought FOCUS LIVE AT THE RAINBOW from '73 and this blew me away RARE EARTH ONE WORLD.So as you can imagine I've been rockin' all day.At this instant TOBACCO ROAD is jumpin' out of the speakers.Man I love that tune.
Al I have a copy of Fools Gold's 1st album, so after reading your post I dug it out and played it for the first time in years, what a good album it is. I only bought it because I am a huge Dan Fogelberg fan, and as you say they backed him on the road.
Other stuff I have been listening to lately. Loads of Mott The Hoople/Ian Hunter. Amy Grant: Simple Things Toto Live in Amsterdam(DVD) It Bites: The Tall Ships Stray: Valhalla. The Strawbs: The Broken Hearted Bride Oh and some album called A Brand New World, bands name escapes me lol
Mark Thanks a fantasic video!!!!! I wish they'ed bring that show to my neighbourhood.Had some RINGO STARR playing last night RINGO and GOODNIGHT VIENNA back to back.No music today though, today it's the DAYTONA 500!!!!!!!!!!!
Well...I took the family to Chicago this weekend for a mini vacation...hotel stay, let the kids go swimming, go downtown to the field museum and navy pier. I'm exhausted. I loaded the I-pod with:
1. Edgar Winter's White Trash: Roadwork *No fan of the Back To Earth & Midnight Lady records should be without this one. Lots of great music from the entire band, which also includes Rick Derringer and the late Bobby Ramirez on drums. And there's even a guest appearance by Johnny Winter on a KILLER version of Rock 'N Roll Hoochie Koo that was released before Rick derringer had a hit with it. One of my favorite live albums! 2. The James Gang: Bang * Lots of great guitar work from the late Tommy Bolin. 3. Richard Wright: Wet Dream * A superb yet underrated solo album from the late Pink Floyd keyboardist. Listening to this one will open up your eyes/ears to just how important Rick was to the sound of Floyd. 4. Buffalo Springfield: S/T debut, Again & Last Time Around...great music from a band that lasted only 2 short years.
Listening to some live LPs WOODSTOCK, Elton John;s 11 17 70 ( 17 11 70 in the UK) ALLMAN BROTHERS at THE FILLMORE EAST, and reading Mike's post about his trip to CHICAGO, reminded me that I haven't been there since '78.We were on our belated honeymoon and were headed to MILWAUKEE, to see some baseball. When we got Milwaukee we stumbled across a concert at the old county stadium. PABLO CRUISE, STEVE MILLER, THE EAGLES.$13.00 a ticket $2.00 to park,so for $28.00 we got to see a great show.THE EAGLES came to New Brunswick last summer and tickets ranged from $150.00 to $250.00,all i did was put on EAGLES LIVE and remember that concert.
It is 1130pm we've been sitting around having a few drinks, by we I mean my wife and me, listening to some old mellow stuff. TOTO, BLONDE,ABBA,PABLO CRUISE,FIREFALL.I think we had PRISM also, but that was a few beers ago!Goodnight all.
Been by myself all day, so it's ROCK N' ROLL BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JIMI HENDRIX - SMASH HITS, STEVE MILLER - BRAVE NEW WORLD, LYNYRD SKYNYRD- SECOND HELPING, RARE EARTH- ONE WORLD, BOB McBRIDE- SEA OF DREAMS, THE WHO- LIVE AT LEEDS. Oh by the way I read that Jon Bon Jovi is scared of losing his hair!Hell I lost mine years ago, if I want to see my hair I'll look at some old photos.I think I'll file this story under WHO GIVES A RATS ASS!!!
has everyone forgotten...this a Rare Earth site???
Use your name please
Also, we are fully aware this is a Rare Earth site. However, the purpose of this thread is to discuss what we are currently listening to. And since variety is the spice of life, why not discuss other bands. I'm sure we all listen to other bands besides Rare Earth. No harm in this.
Mr or Miss Anonymous I suspose you only listen to one band's music? Well I'm a bit different, I groove to tunes from many bands and also this thread reminds me of bands I've forget about, and some I may not known about. It is a way to swap stories with people from around the world concerning their musical tastes. What the hell is wrong with that?Seeing that us CANADIANS are susposed to polite people I've got RARE EARTH's- GET READY on the turn table, does that satisfy you?
Been diggin' deep into the music crate, some of these LPs I haven't played in, well I don't remember. ZAGER & EVANS - 2525 (exordium & terminus), ARLO GUTHIE- Alice's Restaurant sound track, ELTON JOHN- Friends sound track, BOB DYLAN- New Morning, Right this instant it's I JUST TO CELEBRATE and no crackers fallin' from the sky or someone selling me a cellphone, nope just IIIIIIII JUST WANT TO CELEBRATE!
U2 - No Line On The Horizon Chris Cornell - Scream
Old Stuff
Ultravox - Lament & Vienna David Byrne - Rei Momo Bruce Hornsby - Hot House The Church - everything Bill Withers - Live At Carnegie Hall Bruce ****burn - everything
My CANADIAN roots are showing BTO- Not Fragile, STEPPENWOLF- At Your Birthday Party, MINGLEWOOD BAND- Movin', CHILLIWACK-Chilliwack, MOLLY OLIVER-Molly Oliver, DOUCETTE- The Douce Is Loose. Like the DOUCE says" RUN BUDDY RUN". I gotta go night all.
I always loved the Not Fragile album by BTO. I liked the first two albums a lot but Not Fragile was their high point for me. Blair Thornton seemed to bring that little bit of icing on the cake!
Hey, there's a band in the UK which is specially suited to you. They are called Snow Patrol. You can buy their album and file it between Edgar Winter and Ice T.
Doucette is another fine band...Pete did some session work for them..Can't remember what album that wasbut I believe it was douse is loose...ga night....
I always loved the Not Fragile album by BTO. I liked the first two albums a lot but Not Fragile was their high point for me. Blair Thornton seemed to bring that little bit of icing on the cake!
BTO, BTO II, Not Fragile, Four Wheel Drive and Head On are great albums.
Your are right it is "The Duce Is Loose" it features both Peter and Mark, my copy is on the Mushroom label cat no. MRS 5013 came out in 1979. The record is produced by John Ryan for Chicago Kid Productions, thats probably the reason why Peter and Mark got to play on the album.
Thanks Richard! There was a local DJ back in the day played some album cuts from a Doucette album but I don't remember what album the songs came from..what I heard sounded real good...
Today it's been the Doobie Brothers catalog from 1971-1980...all on the iPod. Lest we not forget that Eddie Guzman plays percussion on the "What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits" album.
Thanks DAVE SNOW PATROL eh! They can come to CANADA and I'll send them up north to Nunavut. The Capitol Iqaluit was -52c a couple of days ago. Though today it is a balmy -14c with light snow. Got BOZ SCAGGS-Silk Degrees spinning now. MIKE, love The Doobie Brothers, I pulled out Toulouse Street " Listen to the music" is all we really have to do.
There must be something in the air...I was listening to song selections from EVE as well...DA***ED IF I DO...WINDING ME UP...YOU LIE DOWN WITH DOGS are good songs from the album...PARSONS is more known for an Producer and enginneer but I think he is a good artist as well...E-mail me when you can!!...
Found my first copy of ASIA'S debut album...still sounds good!!..I remember the album came out just after I graduted High School and we all freaked out when HEAT OF THE MOMENT song hit the air waves...My buddy was a KING CRIMSOM,YES AND ELP fan so he was on cloud nine!!....The memories
To me, the Alan Parson's Project, was one of the most under rated projects in music history. The album "I Robot", is an absolute gem. Between ELP's Karn Evil 9 3rd Impression, a very prophetic song, written in 1973, about computers taking over and humans becoming too reliant on the machine, to the point that the computer and man get into an argument at the end of the tune and you are left to judge who wins, and "I Robot", it is a fascinating album and band. It's one of those albums that is just perfect in every way, by a man who is obviously a genius.
What blows my mins is that you have met him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will never, ever forget that ASIA debut album. I was so blown away by the fact that these supergroup musicians, Carl Palmer, Steve Howe, Geoff Downes and John Wetton all came together to produce one of the best albums in the 80's. My favorite song of the album was "Cutting it Fine", because it has that classic Steve Howe guitar sound to it, but, not unlike the Alan Parson's Project album "I, Robot" every song on the album is fantastic. It is just too bad that Wetton was such a problem, and caused himself to be replaced after the 2nd album, which ruined their career, basically. They never recovered when he rejoined after the 3rd album.
Meeting someone like Alan Parsons was awesome! He is down to earth just like meeting Pete,Gil...You would think that a guy that worked with the Beatles and Pink Floyd would have an ego..He did'nt! He was very patient with all the questions and was in no hurry....If the live project comes near your town...go,man,go!!
As far as Asia, I got hooked...then after the next albums, I lost interest..however there are some good moments...
I just found NINE TONIGHT BY BOB SEGER...I forgot I had this one...
MARK ASIA you had to mention them, it got me thinkin' and that could cause MAJOR PRoblems! I started digging into a box of cassettes and there it was ASIA, Sole Survivor is the song I liked. Also found THIN LIZZY -Johnny The Fox, JIMI HENDRIX-Are You Experienced just to name a few. ALICE COOPER -Goes To Hell spinning now, earlier it was THREE DOG NIGHT-Suitable For Framing, SUPERTRAMP-Crisis?What Crisis? JACKSON BROWNE- Hold Out.
Sounds like me and you have a LARGE vintage record collection..Wanna start a retro record store together?? We could make millions!! We could start an account on e-bay!! We could......Nah!!...I'll get my head out of the clouds!!....and play the next one!!....Found STEVE MILLER....ABACADABRA.....
Abracadabra was a good album. I bought the follow up "Circle of Love" on the basis of it having only one song, Macho City, on Side 1 (or was it side 2?). I was looking for another band that could jam for the whole side of an album. Macho City is ok but it's only about 15 minutes long and nowhere near as musically interesting as an extended Rare Earth track.
Hi Dave, I thought "Circle of Love" came first...but I could be wrong...no big deal...I have the album somewhere and I remember Macho City did'nt do anything for me either...A lot of repetive bass licks and Miller's echo guitar work.....NOTHING AND ABSOLUTLY NOTHING can beat the long version of GET READY
MARK I've got a few LPs hangin' around and I'm always on the lookout for more.STEVE MILLER I got to see him in '78, I've got Brave New World, Your Saving Grace, Book Of Dreams LPs.The others were either 8 tracks then cassettes I replaced most with cds.I don"t think I have a copy of Abacadabra, I had the cassette but wore it out a few years ago. DAVE For a little bit I thought maybe SNOWPATROL might have been a band you played in. So I checked out their web site, didn't see any snow.In case you want any of the white stuff a drug store in GRAND BAY, just up the hill from me has a sign that reads 2L Pepsi two for $5 snow free of charge.I'm not sure of delivery. BILLY JOEL- The Stranger spinning now, earlier it was STYX- Cornerstone.
I never owned Abracadabra (the LP) but our drummer at the time bought it so we could learn the single. I got to hear the album several times and liked it. I'd assumed that I waited and bought the follow up Circle of Love, but as Mark correctly points out, Circle came out before it not after it. Clearly the memory is not what it used to be, or maybe it is, but I can't remember!
I definitely don't recall being in Snow Patrol. We've got wall to wall sunshine here in the UK today. It's been warm, the birds are singing and the weatherman has just said....snow showers next week!. I'm coming over to Canada AL where it's nice and warm!

Good point Steve. Celebrate would've been a good choice. That's the bad thing about these types of comps, especially of the 60's era...so many songs out there.
Look at all of the 70's songs included in the CD's. Two by Emerson, Lake and Palmer (that don't represent what they are all about, by the way.) They should have used "Fanfare for the Common Man", which reached number 2 in the charts. I see all these songs that were hits at the same time as "Celebrate". It's just unbelievable.

I can't argue with that Steve
There are some early 70's things in there. But at least they stayed within what I consider to be the best decade of music (1965-1975).
I Just Want To Celebrate (not "Celebrate" by Three Dog Night) would've been my choice if I had to choose one Rare Earth song. Us fans can't get enough of Rare Earth.
