Last year I got an em from GIL...................in it he expressed a desire 4 bygones to b bygones;I forwarded it to PETE;Dont know if he read it...but I think GIL is willin to come to the table;I mean RE is pushin 50,so........relatively soon we all b pushih daisies;Time passes,it erodes, the older we all get....the sooner it all ends;TIME is our most precious asset.Onus on PETE??????????
Well, if it is ever going to happen then now is as good a time as any, seeing as Motown has the new 3CD set and the current line-up has their own new release. I'm sure Rod Richards and Ray Monette would both be up for it...that would be interesting in itself.
I know it won't be easy but I hope Gil and Peter do get back to talking. As Rich says, Life's too short.
I can't put it any other way than letting the water flow under the bridge. I would never tell Pete or Gil that face to face. I don't tell peope what to do. But I have to admit that it could be a good thing. There's a history between Gil & Pete which only they could sort out.
I have to wonder though. If such a thing were to happen, who'd be involved? After all, we'd all want Pete & Gil there. And it'd not be fair to leave out the current guys either, especially Bird who has been there since the mid 80's. And we'd want Ray and Rod there if at all possible. Sadly...Mark, Eddie and John are no longer with us. What about Mike Urso? And Kenny Folcik (James). And...who will be handling the congas/timables? Wisely, the band never tired to fill that spot after Eddie passed in my humble opinion. Too big of shoes to fill.
All of me wishes that Mark, John & Eddie were still with us today. But that wasn't God's plan, unfortunately.
If something happens someday, I'm there! If not, I've seen the All Stars, Rare Earth sans Pete, and The Funks w/Ray. And I'll continue to do so because they've provided me with good times and great memories (on record and in concert).
No big deal PETE;It was concernin the MOTOWN anniversary bash; But he is RECEPTIVE;Sure yall got a lot to talk about,I dont know bout a band reunion..................but I think hes down to rap w/ u.Im sure u just thought it was junk mail.
Rich: I'm sorry but to me it is a big deal. I don't think I ever received mail from you with regards to Rare Earth or Gil or Motown's Anniversary or whatever, so maybe you could send it again??? The only mail I dump is stuff that is obviously from sales scams.... I would like to see the part that talks about bygones..... Thanks Peter
I don't pretend to know all the problems between band mates of RARE EARTH but while I'm writing this I'm listening to MAGIC KEY off of GET READY.This idea, who ever proposed it must be a fan. The fans are the ones make the music world go around. Without us there is nothing,we are the ones who love to sit and listen to music in our homes, in our cars or go to concerts,So if the guys of RARE EARTH can find the MAGIC KEY to this idea's engine and can fire it up we the FANS will be there.
iS IT POSSIBLE TO RETRIEVE EMS FROM SO LONG AGO?iT WENT DOWN LIKE THIS..................i ASKED IF U OR NORMAN WERE THERE?HE SAID THAT U WERE IN CAL..THAT U PROBABLY DIDNT WANNA MAKE THE TRIP.THAT NORMAN WAS SICK;i THINK I SAID HOPEFULLY U GUYS RESOLVED THINGS.HE AGREED...........THAT THE HARD FEELINGS WOULD BE OVER.I SENT IT FROM BUMDROP@ HOTMAIL.COM
Oh Man! If this could only come to pass, I swear you guys would hear me shouting for joy all the way to Utah! I have been hoping this day would come for so long. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.
You know, from your own experiences, from performing with your latest endeavors, that the world absolutely LOVES you guys, Peter, Ray, Gil, Rod, Kenny, & Mike, and if you could just all come together again, even for just a few shows, it would be worth your while. I just wish with all my heart that John, Eddie and Mark were still with us. Maybe you could do a section of the concert in their memory, and feature clips in the background, of them performing with you. I am sure they are out there, like the Ed Sullivan Show, and such.
Peter, Ray and Gil, I don't know if you guys pay any attention to it or not, but the Californiajammer1974 at You Tube, shows you guys in the top "Most viewed" performances, along with some very happy fans who have left very nice comments. Your "I just want to Celebrate" performace is #3 out of all those videos, and that should be enough to convince you, if nothing else, that people from all over this world love you guys!
Please--PLEASE-- think about it. You won't be sorry.
I just received a call from my husband, Gil, who is about to board an airplane to do a gig in California. Someone alerted him of this post, and he asked me to straighten out what is being said from his point of view.
First of all, if Gil ever sent you an e-mail stating that he wanted "bygones to be bygones" that is exactly what he meant and nothing more. That is, if he e-mailed you at all. He does not remember you. However, Gil speaks to many people in regard to Rare Earth, and often the question is asked about his relationship with Pete-and FYI-Gil holds no bad feelings against anyone, and only wishes the very best for Pete and all of the other remaining former Rare Earth members. However, what is between Gil and Pete is their personal business. You have no authority to post anything, by adding what you want to say, and making it sound as though Gil said or meant anything more.
Gil is very much aware that Rare Earth fans would love to see a reunion. However, Gil quotes, "It is an impossibility; it will never happen."
Rich, life goes on and people go their own ways. Rare Earth is very successful and well with the current line-up of Gil, Floyd, Bird, Ivan, and Mike. They are Rare Earth! These guys have proven without a shadow of doubt that they most certainly have no problem representing the band's name. They have more than established their credibility as Rare Earth's band of today, especially with their achievement of -A Brand New World.- This CD speaks loud and clear on this issue, not to mention the thousands of fans all over the world that say so.
Thanks for posting on behalf of Gil. Though a re-union might not be possible I'd like to think that, more than anything, any bad feelings between all parties might one day be put to rest. You are right when you say that this is private business. I get the impression that this was Peter's concern too.
I think Gil can rest assured that it was never anyone's intention to undermine or unsettle the current line up. The new CD has received a thumbs up from posters on this site.
When you speak to Gil wish him all the best with the California gig!!!
Hi UK Dave Gil just called from a layover in Minneapolis and I read your post to him. He said, "thank you." He, along with the rest of the guys, truly appreciates your support, and so do I. This forum rocks! God bless Johnnie Sue
NO REGRETS;I didnt post it on the FORUM;It REALLY is between GIL & PETE;Its nice to know the bad feelings have subsided;GILS email to me was rather innoculous,i thougt PETE would like it;This is NOT about a band reunion; But maybe a rebond, not a reband;I can forward the relevant ems to GIL or his wife ONLY;I TRY.................................
Gil has poured cold water on any speculation by stating that a Rare Earth re-union is impossible. In my view nothing is impossible. If Deep Purple, Fleetwood Mac and The Police can get back together for a tour then anyone can. All it takes is a shed load of bucks or a personal request from the President. Do we know if Obama likes Rare Earth?
If all of the players on One World or Willie Remembers were with us today there'd be a strong case for a re-union. However, wed really be looking at Peter, Gil, Ray and maybe Mike. Not having Eddie would leave a huge musical hole. Kenny and Rod might or might not want to be involved or invited. Personally seeing Rod and Ray playing (but not competing) together on the same stage would be interesting.
No doubt Gil is wondering how you can re-unite a band that is actually still together. Whilst certain people feel that Rare Earth stopped being Rare Earth after Ma, this isnt the case. Whilst Gil might survive as the only link to the successful days, the band has evolved and seems to have found some stability again. Should this boat be rocked?
Unless a promoter with a fat wallet appears, or Obama picks up the telephone, I cant see anything happening. Whilst a one-off concert or tour would be fun from a fans point of view, it might not be quite as much fun for the band members, especially with some of the essential ingredients missing.
On the positive side, the forum does get read by members of the band and if old wounds can be patched up in private then something good will have come out of this. Meanwhile I hope Peter and Gil will show some forgiveness and understanding if we occasionally fall into the habit of fantasising about seeing our heroes "jamming together just one more time".
This subject really is none of my business other than I happen to be close friends with Pete and Gil. When I was in Detroit last June Gil and I were able to catch up at a get together in my honor. I had just completed a recording project with Pete and gave Gil a CD of the song. At that time it made me realize how much I liked both of these talented guys and how much we had all been through together so many years ago. I can't say if there will ever be a Rare Earth reunion. Gil has done well leading the band through it's present stage and that seems to work well. Pete is busy with his own fish to fry, so the band reunion may just be a wish from the fans. However, due to our friendship, I would be happy to broker a peace between these guys. Sort of act as a middleman to smooth things out. I (we) have reached an age where time becomes an important factor in healing old wounds and I would like to see this one resolved.
How's the new book going? Guess it won't be out in time for Christmas That would have made a nice Christmas present.
That's a nice gesture you made regarding your two old friends. Hey, I think you've just sown the seeds for a new rumour. The Sunliners re-union!!! Whoops only joking.
I still keep listening to "Is Anyone Out There?". I love that song and hope there's more to come.
In case you don't post again before Christmas, seasons greetings!
TERRANA u the mf MAN! That was my intention all along,Ive apologized to everyone.........I take it back;I was right,u realize that TIME is our most important asset;If i was a hostage negotiator,u would b my #2 guy,after me.These guys hurt each other so much I guess,yet from the little feedback ive recieved........couple of class guys;These guys go back a long time.........I was still a sperm;
Hi Dave, Hope all is well with you these days. The new book is going well. I had wanted to wrap it up by this Fall but laziness kicked in and that didn't happen. I received a gentle nudge from my publisher and got busy once again. I'm actually seeing light at the end of the tunnel and if I stay focused, could wrap things up in the next few weeks. Merry Christmas to yopu and yours.
There are no apologies needed. I know that I appreciate all that people say in support of Rare Earth. It was truly a beautiful part of my life and I am grateful to have had that piece of Joy. For me, there are no negative feelings for Gil or anyone else connected to Rare Earth. You know it's been 25 years since I played with Gil or Ray or Eddie or Mark, and I really don't remember the bad things. I do think of the great moments we all had together. It was truly a ride beyond my wildest dreams. My world has changed and I'm sure Gil's has too. I'm sure that Gil cares a lot for his current members and wants the best for them. I know that I am equally committed to what I'm doing. Fans want to see things like a reunion, and that's understandable. Reunions give fans a chance to go back in time and re-live great moments in their lives. I'm sure Gil and I would want that happiness for the fans. For me and Gil to look back that far could be painful. We would again be re-united with the loss of John, Eddie and Mark. I'm sure we think of them often with great love for them. For me,that was Rare Earth in our finest moments. Now Gil has the new Rare Earth, and he wants fine moments for them too. He's put in many years keeping them together and I hope his efforts are rewarded. I've gotten good reports of their shows. As far as for me. I'm fine. I love music and I won't ever stop believing that another hit is just around the corner. You have to believe and have faith in what your doing. I do, and I'm sure Gil does too. We used to talk a lot in the early days and I can tell you that Gil is a real believer. I too don't think that there would ever be a reunion, but not because as you think that we have differences that are bitter. Time takes care of that. It's all very foggy now and when it's get clear all I see is the fond memories of being together as we once were. Without John, Eddie, Ray and Mark it would be a huge void. Please know that your concern is appreciated. Please know that Gil doesn't wish me any harm and I don't wish him any either. Life has changed for us and we're good with that. I hope you will support Rare Earth forever in what ever form it takes. I hope you will support me wherever I go. It would mean a lot to both Gil and myself. I just want Peace and Joy for everyone concerned. As they say: Life is short....and getting shorter. And now, I just want to play the next song.........
I think what I started a few days ago had everybody thinkin all kinds of different things.......in the end I think we all agree,TIME is short......hard feelings have turned into GOOD feelings;LETS GET IT ON.
The little I know of u.........u got some communication skills;U the only guy that qualifies;Besides,I live in RIO,headed to PR;U guys like the cold too much...............u know what?I think the non musical reunion.........has already taken place,on this forum.
