The Feeling (Generation Outtake?)

I have seen several track listings for an out-of-print 2CD set titled "ANTHOLOGY".  Most track lists show a couple unreleased titles (ex: I Just Cried, Child Of Fortune/One World, Fun House, etc). At least one listing uncluded a track titled "The Feeling". Probaly a GENERATION outtake.  Are there a couple differnt versions of the anthology set?  Does a Rare Earth outtake titled "The Feeling" really exist?

thanks, DickP

The Feeling  is from the Generation LP, it does exist and Pete Rivera is on lead vocals.  It was due to be used on Anthology but was pulled at the final stages and the listings changed.

A new version retitled Got The Feeling was recorded for their 1992 album  called Different World.

Check out the Generation track listings and cover on the discography page at http://www.rareearthworld.co.uk/discography.html

John, Very interesting information about the track listings for the anthology CD set. A few months back I noticed a copy of Anthology for auction on eBay.
The seller had listed the complete track listing and "The Feeling" was included. I have two copies of Anthology CD which are slightly different as far as the wording on the jackets is concerned.
The tracks are identical on both my copies and "The Feeling".is not included on either copy. After seeing the copy of Anthology on eBay with "the Feeling" included in the track listing I had meant to start a post asking the same question DickP just asked.
I was fairly certain that either you or Richard would know the answer to the question so in addition to DickP you have also enlightened me with this information.
Thank you John for having such a brilliant mind when it comes to all things Motown and Rare Earth and for sharing your knowledge with all of us here on the forum.

Thanks so much for thin info on The Feeling.  I did check out the discography.  Very cool.  Did the  GENERATION soundtrack really exist?  If not, how is the track list known? (or is that an educated guess?). My understanding was that it was proposed but canceled.

Im interested in purchasing the anthology set, but I have not found it for sale at places I usually shop (Amazon, CDConnection, Tower, etc).  Has anyone seen it listed for sale recently? I have found a copy via download, but I am one of those nuts that prefers to buy an artists work if avalable.

As a side:

I am so glad I came across this forum. Obviously I am interested in learning more about Rare Earth and this looks place looks like a goldmine to me.  Anyway, I have looked around a bit already & learned a ton of new stuff already.  Just ordered the Born to Wander book (which I discovered via this forum) & look forward to getting into that as well. The Sorry about the typos I dont seem to be able to type 5 words without a spelling error!

thanks again!, DickP

Hi Dick

Take a look at the Discography page on this website for details of Generation and Live In Chicago. Yes, both projects were cancelled.

You'll enjoy Peter's "Born To Wander" book. I think you would also enjoy Ralph Terrana's "Road Through Motown" book too. You'll learn a lot about the early days of Rare Earth as well as Ralph's post Sunliners career. I can't speak recommend it highly enough.

Generation the album was issued, I have seen a physical copy and the actual cover is on the discography page.  Even though the single was on the David Janssen movie all the other tracks on the album were no part of it.

Live In Chicago also exists as a pressed album and the master tapes are in the vaults.

Anthology can be obtained through Amazon.co.uk

The good thing here is we all learn new things from one another, lots of your postings have told me stuff I never knew about, so....thanks!

John is right, the LP certainly exists. There must have been quite a few pressed as I have seen 4-5 copies for sale on Ebay down the years. I guess all the copies are sitting nice and snug in peoples record collections.

I have been enjoying reading the forum for a while now and thought now was a good time to jump in. I bid on a copy of the Generation soundtrack in '03 and lost-it went for around $152.50. A few years later I won a copy for $214.50.The most recent copy I am aware of sold at auction for around $586.00-I remember this because  I thought I would pick up a "spare" copy at the same bid I had won with previously and the bid was around $69.00 with about a minute left to bid. I guess all hell broke loose in that last minute!

TomM, welcome to the forum.. Yes it would be frantic at the last minute on Ebay for this album because there are two sets of people bidding, theres "us" the Rare Earth fans, and the Motown collectors who have to have it as they need to fill that R510 catalogue number.... On one occasion I saw that a copy had been won on Ebay by somebody with a name like "Derbyjoan" which must have been someone conected with Kim Derby who starred in the movie....

After reading John's post about Anthology being available from Amazon.couk I decided to check out the site.
I noticed a CD entitled Rare Earth In Concert by Mickie Krause. I haven't a clue about this CD. Any of you guys over in the UK know anything about this CD? Thanks, Jocko

How odd Jocko :)

Here's what I could find:

Mickie Krause (born 1974 as Michael Engels) is one of the most popular singers in the German Schlager music business. Most of his songs have rather simple, vulgar and/or insulting lyrics and deal with topics such as women or drinking - often with ironic subtext.

Mike, I did a Google search on this guy myself but didn't find out much. Thanks for the info.
The title track of his CD is what caught my eye. Very odd indeed.
Why in the world would he call it Rare Earth In Concert?
Was it some type of ploy to cash in on a very in demand CD title?  Who knows?
It sure is a strange world we live in today.
