Quote from another thread....... "I know that Chained, Fun House and Fresh From The Can (a remixed section of "Thoughts" w/Urso dubbing a bass line) were mixed. I seem to recall mention of a song called "Bring Me Together" and a song of Mark's".
These are the tracks recorded about the time of the Frank Wilson sessions in 1974 which would have been the follow up studio album to MA.
Known tapes from the vaults for this period.....The first 3 tracks are released.
Chained Fun House Fresh From The Can Bring Back The Thrill Bring Me Together Fortune Teller
Regarding "Fresh from the can" vs. "Thoughts" I much prefer John Persh's bass playing, and the original recording, under the title "Thoughts". I pointed out in another thread some time ago that the bass track was not the same in "Fresh from the can", but didn't receive any feedback. Now, it is confirmed that *is* Mike Urso replacing John's bass track.
"Thoughts" is one of my favorite Rare Earth tunes ever recorded, so I picked up on this right away. In my opinion, Mike is overplaying, and it takes away from the song, tremendously.
I think Mike does a good job playing bass on that track. He has his own style which seems to be more lyrical. That's cool. I also think we're far more used to "Thoughts" from In Concert and how John played it. For the record I enjoy both Mike's and John's playing. Apples and oranges as they say
A small note about Thoughts. I asked Ray about this track and he told me they were in the studio and they started the tape srolling and just started jamming. He said the entire performance was improvised. I would've thought that they would've started out with a "theme" and jumped off from there. He also said the entire performance lasted an hour and after playing they listened back to the tape and liked what they heard. I'd love to hear the entire thing
