   Hi Mike,

 Thank you so much for going to all this trouble.  I couldn't wait to hear this in its entirety, after hearing the portion of Ray's solo you sent.  My anxiety was well worth it.  This is absolutely phenomenal.  

 Pete, I do not know how you kept the tempo going strong for so long!  Your Ludwig's sound great, clean and very distinct compared to the Slingerland kit you used ( even though I did love the white pearl drum wrap on the Slingerland's).

 Sounds like Gil was using a wah wah on his sax. That's clever!  Was really something to hear Mark play piano/organ solo in thej same tune!!! 
Raymond...what can I say.  Your guitar solo is superb, as always  Man, I wish I could've been there!!!!!!!  This is truly a treat, Mike, thanks ever so much!!!!!

  Peter, thank YOU for making this available to us all.  I am sure glad you were going through those boxes!  Bless you!!!!!!!

I already peeled the u-tube segments and edited them back together. I hate being interupted when I'm listening to good music. Thats the one thing I really hated about 8-tracks..

I thought about maybe "When I Write", "Tin Can People", or even something like "Every Now And Then We Get To Go On Down To Miami" or a deep cut like "Delta Melody".

It was 1988 when I first became aware of "Live in Chicago", for many years I wondered what the R547 catalogue number refered to. I had seen many listings of the albums on the Rare Earth label but R547 for some reason was allways blank, seeing the lisiting that actualy put a title to the number was amazing. So here I am 20 years on hearing something from it for the first time. So its a very big thank you to Peter and Mike, Peter for finding the tape and letting us all share it, and Mike for all his hard work in getting it( and all the other stuff in his project) to us via Yourtube.

It's now only mid March and so far this year we have Tight and Hot, Get Ready from Chicago, what next I wonder?. Perhaps Peter you could go and check out your attic as Jim said and maybe you could come up with a tape of what Rare Earth fans refer to as "The Frank Wilson Sessions", now that would be something.

 As most of you know here, I didn't hear anything by Rare Earth after Ma.
When Pete left the band, I stopped buying the records, and got caught up in other groups.  I am not proud of this, of course, and am rather embarrassed to admit it, because it makes me sound like I am not a loyal fan, but, believe me, I am, and always have been.  It is just that  when the person who most influenced you as a musician( Pete) leaves his band, you sort of get lost. I never fully recovered from that, and so didnt keep up with them after Ma (other than the HUB albums) and somehow, I missed the second HUB album, and only have the first.  I hope you know what I am saying.


 The reason for this post is, I have been sifting through You Tube on a daily basis reagrding Rare Earth, and I found a song that I had not heard before by RE, titled ""Share my Love" and can now, I see what I missed!!  This song blew me away.  Pete's voice is so strong, and agressive.  It's just a great song.  Now, I see that Mike has added another one I haven't heard, "King of the Mountain", which had the same affect on me.  So, now, I my excitement and anxiety for Mike's CD's is even more enormous, because this is all NEW to me!  It's like starting over, so to speak.  I can't wait to hear the RE albums I missed out on. 

  One final question I would like to ask, regarding who actually hand their hands on the controls, when the "Rare Earth In concert" album was finalized in the studio.

 Did the band or the engineers or producer put the album together?  Did you guys have any say in it at all? For example, whose decision was it to put the opening portion of Hey Big Brother on the LP, where Peter is talking, and so forth, chose which tunes to include, etc.?  

 I am so very curious to know why the audience reaction after 'I Know I'm losing" you is blended with a backwards recording of applause, as the track ends.  The James Gang did the same, exact thing on their  1972 "Live in Concert" album, as the track " Lost Woman" ends.  You play that section of the recording backwards, and you hear the words "Thank you!" surrounded by the audience screaming for more.   I have always wonderd why did Motown do that?  I can send anyone a clip of this who wants to hear it. It's only about 16 seconds in length.  As a kid, I used to play the Hendrix albums backwards.  Jimi ( as well as other bands)used to insert all kinds of backwards lead guitar riffs, as well as some of the drumming in the tune " Are you experinced?". 
I mentioned this some time ago, in another thread, so it may sound familiar. 
It's a silly question, or point, but I always wondered why this is.

  I might also add that the voice saying "Thank you" that I mentioned, sounds like either Peter, or John Persh.  On the  ames Gang album I mentioned, it is , of course, Joe Walsh saying "Thank you".

I envy you a little bit. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing Get Ready (Chicago 74) and King of the Mountain (Thanks a million Mike. Pete and Ray!!!) for the first time ever after all these years. Steve, I'm sure you will find plenty to enjoy from the later Rare Earth albums you missed out on, with or without Peter. I'm not going to knock the Jerry La Croix albums because I genuinely enjoy a lot of the songs and, of course, depending on which album you listen to, there's still recognisable content from Gil, Ray and Eddie. Then of course, you've got the added treat of Band Together and Grand Slam. If Mike places his suggestions of Tin Can People and When I write on You Tube you'll see exactly what I mean. Two really good songs in my opinion.

I know what you mean Richard. I first heard about another live album back in 1991 when I really got into all thhings Rare Earth. Some guy @ a record fair mentioned it but said it was never released. I forgot about this until I purchased "Anthology" in 1995 the day it was released and read the booklet notes. After seeing that tracklist I thought "Oh man, that'd kick ass!". I'm sure the guys who worked on that set (Al Quaglieri, producer...and Bill Inglot/Dan Hersch, mastering engineers) had full access to the vaults and found the master tapes. Bill Inglot's mastering and work is well known. He's the type of guy who goes the extra mile to make sure he gets the correct tapes and always finds extra stuff. If he were to master a release of "Live in Chicago", he might even go back to the mutlitrack tapes and mix the songs from the Chicago show that weren't to be included on the album.

What next? Hmm...how about something special that Jocko sent me :)

The 1975,76 and 77 albums are well worth hearing. I really enjoy side 1 if back To Earth and all of the 1977 self-titled album. Good stuff.
