Ray, Man do I remember those days. What a great band. Babbitt called me last week to see if I had any of the Scorpion session tapes. Wish I could have said yes.
I HEAR YOU RALPH!! IT'S FREAKIN ME OUT SEEING THESE PICS. WE HAD SOME GREAT TIMES DIDN'T WE.
WE'VE BEEN LOOKING ALL OVER THE WORLD TRYING TO FIND THE MASTERS. WE'D LIKE TO RE-RELEASE IT. IF YOU REMEMBER,IT WAS ON TOWER RECORDS AND CAPITOL SHUT DOWN THE LABEL JUST AFTER THE "SCORPION" ALBUM CAME OUT.IT NEVER HAD A CHANCE. I'VE STILL GOT TWO COPIES OF IT(RECORDS),BUT THAT'S IT.
IN CASE ANYBODY DOESN'T KNOW THE GUYS: MICHAEL CAMPBELL(VOCALS),ANDREW SMITH(DRUMS),BOB BABBITT(BASS), AND ME ON GUITAR.
THAT'S A GOOD IDEA RALPH. I'LL RUN IT BY BABBITT AND SEE WHAT HE THINKS. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT CAPITOL STILL DOESN'T HAVE THE MASTERS,BUT WE PRETTY MUCH EXHAUSTED ALL THE OPTIONS,AND CAME UP EMPTY HANDED.
WE CONTINUED TO WRITE AND WORK AT IT. WE SIGNED WITH MOTOWN AND CUT FOUR SONGS. THEY ENDED UP BEING USED ON THE "STONEY AND MEATLOAF" ALBUM. THAT'S SCORPION PLAYING,AND MIKE AND I SINGING BACKROUND ON THE TRACKS WE WROTE. SHORTLY AFTER THAT,I JOINED RARE EARTH,AND MOTOWN MOVED TO L.A. MIKE WENT ON TO BE AN ACTOR,AND BABBITT AND ANDREW WENT TO THE EAST COAST TO PLAY ON A TON OF SESSIONS.

RAY
HELLO RAY.... WAS THERE A TIME THAT YOU GUYS TALKED ABOUT RE-FORMING THE BAND? THAT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU GUYS COULD PULL IT OFF.... I AM SURE THAT RALPH WILL LET YOU USE HIS STUDIO..LOL!! MARK M
EVERYBODY TOTALLY WENT THEIR SEPERATE WAYS. BABBITT AND ANDREW WENT TO THE EAST COAST,AND MIKE WENT TO L.A. FOR ACTING. I SPENT THE NEXT 33 YEARS WITH RARE EARTH. UNFORTUNATELY,ANDREW PASSED AWAY,BUT MIKE,BABBITT,AND I STAY IN TOUCH. AS I SAID,WE'RE TRYING TO GET THE ALBUM RE-RELEASED. IF SOMETHING COMES OF IT,WHO KNOWS WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN!

I ASSUME THERE IS A LOT OF RED TAPE IN REGARDING A RE-RELEASE....HOWEVER,MY THINKING IS THAT THERE IS A HEAVY METAL BAND IN GERMANY CALLED THE SCORPIONS AND THEY ARE A VERY POPULAR BAND AND THERE MIGHT BE SOME CONFUSION FOR FANS....I KNOW WE ARE TALKING A MAJOR DIFFERENCE IN MUSIC BUT WHO KNOWS GOOD LUCK AND BEST WISHES MARK M RAY
If you want your reply to coincide with the picture of young Ray & Mike, you need to click on "quote" directly underneath the picture.
Last week I saw a copy of this album online and the asking price: $235.00 But hey, there's always at least ONE person who wants something that someone else has and is willing to pay for it.
It's a great album in my opinion. Really funky, kinda bluesy and R&B tinged...with some Hendrix influence. I've no problems with any of that!
And I am also aware that it's rare and valubale but that high of a price is a bit much. I'd pay that for one of those super, duper rare test pressings of "Live In Chicago"

Thanks, Mike!!! I was getting a bit frustrated with the two different posts from Ray that I've commented on. Nothing I wrote was matching up to where it should - my first was for that pic of both he & Judy on his photo album post. (He'd die if I showed some pics of when we were up north at the lake! LOL! Don't worry, Ray, my parents have those pics - actually, I think Steve has all the family pics now....) That's really something about the album - I wonder if the seller will actually get his asking price? I'm sorry to say I never heard that album, or even heard of Scorpion. My dad thought rock music was "the devil's workshop!" So I didn't grow up hearing Ray's music - of course I know the most popular of Rare Earth's songs - who doesn't?! I snuck & watched him on tv sometimes when he was on some late night show after dad went to work(he worked midnights) - mom would let me. I went to a couple of his concerts when I was grown up - awesome! I know my oldest brother Steve collected Ray's albums; I wonder how many he still has now...... My Uncle Dan (my mom's brother, so not a relative of Ray's) said he partied with Ray when they were younger. Now I'm curious if he has any old albums of Ray's. He just might - I'll have to ask him & see if he has anything rare! Cool!

Hi Laura,
You're welcome.
Ray @ the lake? Ray ddoing a can opener or cannonball. Hopefully not a bellyflop...those hurt! I bruised 2 ribs doing that once.
Nice to have you here. If you find anything rare or cool, don't hesitate to say so :)
Thanks, Mike, for the warm welcome. If I find anything interesting I'll let you know. I emailed my Uncle Dan about Ray, but he never answered...oh well. The picture I remember most of Ray was he & his family sitting on Grandpa's dock at the lake. I'll have to ask my brother if he still has all the old photos & to let me go through them. I don't think I'd post pics of Ray's family though - at least not without his permission!

Hi Laura,
You're welcome :)
Probably a good idea to not post old photos of Ray.
By the way, did you ever see Rare Earth back in the 70's?

I was born in '63. My parents were very strict & religious (my dad more so). He doesn't like rock music & I wasn't allowed to listen to it (I did anyway, but got in lots of trouble when caught!). Mom would let me see Rare Earth on late night tv when they were on after dad went to his midnight shift job. That was cool! Then there was a time when my brother Steve took me to a local club where Rare Earth was playing. I can't remember how old I was, if I was still in high school or if I'd just graduated - I'm thinking I was still in school. I remember I was wearing my very cool red tall boots! LOL! A bunch of my relatives were there - Ray's family & our cousins & aunts & uncles. I got asked to dance by some guy & I got up there & really shook my booty & had the aunt's tongues wagging!!! (I wonder what ol' Bert would think of his daughter now?! blah blah blah) So I'm not sure what year that was! I'm old now & my memory is drastically failing! I stayed with Ray & his family in California briefly in '82 when I left home to spread my wings & got in a bit of trouble out there. They were very kind to help me out. Then I got to see Rare Earth play at...I'm thinking... at least 1 or 2 Woodward Dream Cruises when my hubby & I took our old Cadi conv. down there to show off back in the 90's. I really haven't had the pleasure of seeing them too often!
