Here is some info for anyone who can receive Sky Satellite television. The Performance Channel is showing episodes of The Ed Sullivan Show, a very popular American entertainment programme that included bands. They show the same episode 3 times a day at 6.30am, 3pm and 6.30pm. The number for Performance on the Sky system is 271

Fingers crossed that they will get round to showing the episode which R.E. appeared on, so video and dvd recorders at the ready.

For anyone in the UK with Virgin cable TV, the Performance Channel number is 312.

I shall also keep my fingers crossed for RE performances. Do we know yet if the shows are being shown in any sort of order?

They are not being shown in order but the episodes so far have been around the 1969 to 1970 series.  The good thing is the complete episodes seem to be being broadcast.  The Rare Earth episode also features an ice skating monkey weirdface

The episode in question is No.1042 from season 24 and was aired September 27 1970.

Forget my posting above. Since the dispute with Sky, Virgin cable isn't carrying Performance now.cry

Would that be the line up with Kenny and Rod or had Mark and Ray arrived by then?

I guess Bridges, Guzman, Richards, James, Persh, and Rivera, going by the date.   I think JP2 said he had a copy.

I've got a copy on vhs.  I'm going to try to get it on You Tube for you guys. It's the original lineup, stay tuned.

It's got the band members on platforms on the ice.  There are a couple of flubs, as its lip synched.  Still very cool though.

Pete told me he was late getting to his drums on that particular show. It seems he was backstage playing with the monkey. As he was rushing to his drums he passed Mr. Sullivan who playfully said to him " Nice going sport ".

Forget both of my posts above.

Telewest Cable TV areas taken over by Virgin still transmit Perfomance on Channel 312 and the Ed Sullivan Show is on every daysmile

NTL Cable TV areas taken over by Virgin transmit MTV2 on Channel 312, so no Ed Sullivan therecry

Though the headlining stars tend to be very good, I can't believe how awful some of the artists I'd never heard of before are.

Richard,

Up to this week, I was able to watch Ed Sullivan Show on Virgin Cable (ex Telewest). The on-screen TV guide is now giving me the message that the Performance channel has ceased broadcasting.

Are you still able to get Performance on Sky?

The Performance Channel have just launched "Performance Mainstreet" it can be found on Sky No. 271. It's showing episodes of The  Ed Sullivan Show, the interesting thing is the 4 episodes I have seen so far have been ones that I have not seen on their main channel(still Sky 27O), so they must have got a new batch of the show, fingers crossed they might show the episode with Rare Earth.

There are lots of other great things on Mainstreet besides Ed Sullivan. Yesterday there was John Lennon live in New York, The Genesis Songbook, and today they have Deep Purple in Concert. These programmes are shown in rotation so they are repeated several times a day.

Can people who can pick up Mainstreet on other systems please post the details of the channel numbers etc. Thanks.

By the way, I am sending Ray a DVD of Rare Earth stuff from 1973 (Midnight Special & Dick Clark) and 1988 (Wolfman Jack TV Special) as well as a cd from a 1985 gig @ Harpo's in Detroit. I included copies for him to send to you as well.

Kenny!!!! So good to see you on here, if only so at long last, I can say "thanks" for your contribution right from the very start. It was the Get Ready single that hooked me to Rare Earth, and you were part of that. I hope other visitors will share that view and it's good to know you are keeping well!!
