Why don't you e-mail him and ask him what's going on?  Pete loves e-mail.

A little over a year ago Pete and I got together in my studio in Monterey, California and did 19 demos of things Pete had written. Some of these songs were incredibly good. For some reason we haven't been able to get this project any further.

Ralph, any chance of providing us with some more background info on these recordings ie titles etc.

Could you please also give us an update on your book. It would be usefull to have the publishers name as I am certain people will want to place advance orders with them.

Thanks.

Richard Norris

Richard,
It's been a long time since you and I have communicated. Good to see you. Over one weekend Pete and I went into the studio and came up with 19 demos. Some of the things Pete had all, or at least most, of the lyrics to but many were just sketchy ideas. All in all there were some very good songs in the mix. Titles? hmmmm...." Look The Other Way" " "Ride The Wind " ( two very good songs ) and now my mind went blank. For some reason Pete and I can't seem to get together to pull this off. Part of the problem, I suppose, is distance. ( I live on the Central Coast of California and Pete lives in Southern California ) We are about 400 miles apart. Which isn't all that bad but differing schedules of availability seem to get in the way also. Time will tell on this one.
As far as my book. The Title is " The Road Through Motown " and will be available through Bankhouse Books. The publisher is now doing whatever publishers do to ready the book for release but as of yet I don't have a confirmed date for the release. I would imagine in the next few months. Good seeing your name Richard. Why don't you drop in at Soulfuldetroit.com and join the forum? I would love to see you there.

Ralph,

Yes it has been quite a while since we were last in contact, to long infact. Thanks for the info on the tracks and the book. I know it can take a while for a book to come out having worked for a book publishers for 31 years, but as soon as it is out Ralph post all the details here.

Well Ralph, I'm definitely ordering a copy of your book when it comes out! Also, I hope those songs with Pete surface as a CD in the future.

Incidentally, Richard and JockoD, I finally got Dreams / Answers via ebay. Its on its way across the pond at this very moment. Can't wait!

The book begins when I'm about seven years old and discovering my interest in music. It meanders through my early days playing in the band that would morph into The Sunliners / Rare Earth, Tera Shirma, Motown and independent production to present day. I think it came out rather well and hopefully will be enjoyed by those that read it.

Pete's real surname is Hoorelbeke which is of Belgian origin. He took the name Rivera from his cousin's husband.

Hi Ralph

Now you are talking doing new some tunes again with Pete, will the 19 demos that you did with him have any significance?  Im sure Pete said on his site quite a while back that he had done a demo cd with some other guy too.

Deke,
This first song we are just beginning was written by a trio of Nashville writers. It is a song I feel compelled to do simply because it is so timely regarding the political climate of today. Once we complete this song, if we are happy with the way things work out we will continue. Earlier in this thread I mentioned two songs, " Ride The Wind " and " Look The Other Way" that I feel are outstanding songs written by Pete. I would like to go into " Ride The Wind " next.
This first song, " Is Anybody Out There? " is very Rare Earth-ish but the others are completely different and I'm sure will knock people out. I have been in the studio the last two days developing the track to the first song. It is really starting to come together.

It's been a while but it looks like Pete and I will be going into the studio soon to finally get this song done. I'll keep you posted.

Peter has contributed quite a lot of songs to RE as a writer over the years. Pretty good ones at that. Any idea what his writing process is? Does he play guitar and / or piano? Does he produce demos himself?

Looking forward to getting the book very soon by the way.

Lately Pete has been using a keyboard that has various programmed rhythms. This gives him inspiration for whatever he comes up with. He has been coming up with some very good songs so I'm assuming this method is working for him. Let me know how you like the book.
