Hi Forum,

can anyone tell me something about the CD "Rare Earth feat. Pete Rivera"? It says that the tunes are re-recorded, and listening to the few seconds at Amazon.com, I would agree.

I saw a vinyl LP around 1995 where the word "re-recording" was printed. Did not buy it (regret it still!).

Hi,

I would expect any answer to this rather basic question. Sorry to say that his forum looks like spending to much focus on trivia, instead of the music we all like, RARE EARTH.

Again, pls help me to sort out my question. There should be many out there  to help me.

Best Regards, Per-Erik

These are re recordings and have been released on several budget labels over the years.  There is no information available regarding actual dates that they were recorded.  The only member of Rare Earth to appear on these recordings is Pete Rivera.

Join the party Per-Erik. I'm sure you didn't mean to be critical, but the reason that the forum sometimes falls into the trivia trap is because it needs new input from the likes of you.

Your question was an interesting one, but the reason that it didn't spark a big response is probably because most of us here were unable to answer it.

If you look through the topic index you'll see that over the years the forum has covered most aspects of Rare Earth and their music in great depth and had the pleasure of contributions from Peter Rivera, Ray Monette, Gil Bridges, Rod Richards and Ralph Terrana. I'm pretty sure you won't find a better resource of Rare Earth information than what's offerred on this site.

Also, there's nothing wrong with trivia. I never knew until recently that Mark Olson (allegedly) lost one of his toes in a motorcycle accident. You learn something new nearly everyday on this website ;)

I say it often, but "thumbs up" to John and Richard who've put in a lot of hard work to provide us with this wonderful website.

Many years ago it was not uncommon for artists or groups to be persuaded to re-record their records in an effort to re-vive their careers. Usually these re-records were intended for foreign markets or various compliations. When an original record faded from the charts, companies moved on and the artist were left with nothing to look forward to. The artists were paid to perform their songs again, sometimes with good results and sometimes not. Back in those days there were no CD's or downloads and no classic rock radio or Youtube. These factors contributed to the original records having a re-newed life. When this started happening the re-records came into play. Everyone tries to capitalize on the situation. The consumer has to be careful with what he thinks he's buying. Some folks have bought what they think are the orginal recordings only to find out later that it might be a re-record. Artists sing and play and I don't think the re-dos were ever meant to fool the public, but rather to fill markets that weren't serviced by the original record companies. The RE catalog for instance was dis-continued then some of the albums were released on CD's. Compilations are common place for music markets. Hopefully people looking for RE albums will find their way through the maze of titles and performances.
