Peter Rivera, Unplugged - New CD Review
Permalink

Hey All,

About a week ago I recieved an new CD by Peter Rivera, 'Peter Rivera, Unplugged." Peter has recorded unplugged versions of some classic Rare Earth hits. While the song titles are familiar, Peter introduced some new arrangements, to further compliment the unplugged essence.

Two things however remained very powerful, Peter's vocals and the electricity of the tracks, in other words the "energy." Rock-on Peter. "Hey, Big Brother" demonstrates some of the changes, but the song still manages to make you want to sing along with the rebellious chorus. "In Bed" morphed into even more of a ballad, I think I prefer this arrangement over the original. "Tobacco Road," deep, stone cold blues, they got 'em Detroit, Chicago and probably about anywhere.

The original Rare Earth cut, "Ma" featured some awesome guitar sustain, thanks to Ray Monette. Peter's new "Unlugged" version has a mix of muted and sustained notes that acoustically work and work well. Stop, read carefully, Ray is not playing on Peter's release, it was simply a comparision.

I would highly recommend "Peter Rivera, Unplugged!"

Peter's new Unplugged Group consists of:

Joe Brasch - Guitar
Danny McCollim - Keys
Kevin Dodson - Percussion
Tera Brasch - Background Vocals

I truly hope I spelled all the names correctly, if not please correct me and accept my apologies.

Peter, best of luck on your latest venture. From what I understand the release should be available soon on websites like Amazon or perhaps CD Baby. Also, thank you for the pre-release CD.

Peace,

Chicago Tommy

Thank you for that Tommy.

I'll be on the lookout for that cd smile Hopefully he'll release a DVD as well.

Yes, Peter still has the vocal chops. It's amazing. When I saw him last in 2008 he played and sang as if he was in his 20's or 30's. And he was having fun.

Can't wait for the release.  Like what I saw on Peter's live web cast a while back.

Hey guys... I am currently working on a DVD of the recording process for Peter Rivera's Unplugged album with some behind the scenes footage as well.  For the video track "In Bed", I filmed a short intro piece that used some of the rehearsals as well as some ambient recording of the music from the studio.

On the DVD itself, the following video will fade out and then the entire music video of the song "In Bed" will begin, using the audio from the album itself.  But to give you an idea of what Peter has been working on, you might want to check this out:

To watch larger and in HD, see this version is here:

Enjoy!
