Everyone here has either heard one or both of these albums & all of you have them in the mail now, for certain.
So, tell me...which do you prefer? HUB self-tiled or Cheata'. Personally, I think I prefer Cheata' a little more. Now, this doesn't take away anything from the first album. But the second album is a little funkier. I dig that. Knowing that the album wasn't quite finished when Tom Baird died makes it poignant. And the cover of "Boogie Man"...I love it. I'm familiar with Freddie King's cover of it. And since I dig Freddie's work, I enjoy HUB's cover of the song.
My 7 year old son loves "Down To Acapulco". We actually have a little hole-in-the-wall mexican restaurant in the area. And everytime we go there, Cameron sings that song...well, except for the line "I got stoned in Acapulco". I turn down the volume when that line comes on.
Both albums give the impression that the 3 guys were really enjoying themselves. And I don't think that could be faked.
Hey.... Thanks for bringing this up..... We really did have fun makin this album... I really miss Tom and Mike... Haven't seen Mike in years... I heard he travels a lot. I couldn't help thinking about Tom last weekend. I went in the studio and recorded a live unplugged CD with my good friends and when we mixed the album there were songs that Tom produced and wrote. I closed my eyes and thought to myself that Tom would be smiling as we did a good job on the CD. I think he would approve... gotta go now.....

Cheata, hands down! I admit I've only listened to HUB briefly tonight. I picked up Cheata on vinyl in New Orleans in 1987 and it's always been a favorite of mine. The HUB album sounds a bit more contrived on the first listen. However I love the first cut already, Anyone Who Had a Heart. Cheata sounds more fresh and creative, but thanks Pete for both albums. You should be proud to have them in your catalog.
I'll need to listen to them side by side to compare. "Anyone Who Had a Heart" is a great song and reminds me of my early years when the original by Cilla Black used to blast out of the "wireless"
Now that I think about it...they're both pretty equal. A Dream For The Longest Night is tailor made for Pete to sing. Tom Baird sang it well on the Matrix album but Pete took it to a new place. Shucks, it's all good.
