Hi everyone. I had to go on a 45 minute drive yesterday. I went down into my cellar where I keep all of my old tapes and pulled out, blindfolded, Rare Earth "Grand Slam". For the life of me I can't understand why that release received no airplay or recognition. Like "Band Together" before it, "Grand Slam" is loaded with soul and feeling. Some people said it sounded "hurried" and "slapped together", but I STRONGLY disagree. I know I am only one person, but I give that album the "thumbs up". What is really frightening is that it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to even find a copy today! Anthony Musto
Good album...good singing and good playing...but the production is the weak link. Too much emphasis on horns and strings. Any Rare Earth is better than no Rare Earth at all.
I never got that impression and I heard the album many, many times. Everyone hears something different I imagine. That explains why the album did so poorly sales wise....some people just didn't hear the soul in the grooves....I personally loved the horns and strings on the album. But I respect everyone's opinion. Again, I am just one person!
