Rare Earth pix Circa 1978: To Pete, Ray, The Brothers Terrana, H.W., or *WHOMEVER*

Although there are *lots* of neat shots of the gang in *most* (not ALL) of their configurations, one shot that I personally find real cool, keen, neat, and *very* underused..

Is the portrait of the gang from circa 1978 (The John Ryan-produced year)

Save for the "Warm Ride" sheet music, the back cover of the Promo Only EP "Motown's Magical Spring Tour Sampler", and the inner tray of the 20th Century Masters CD compilation, this superb photo has *never* been used widely...like, say, the "Addams Family"-styled shot (As Pete himself so hilariuosly put it when I met him at aconcert in 1998) from 20th Anniversary SUPERSTAR SERIES of 1980/81, to name but one..

The 1978 shot *has* been used as a frontsleeve shot for a "Long Playing Songs" (NOT the title, but that's what it featured, all 4 of 'em) 2 LP set on Motown in a release only in Europe. (By the way, Rare Earth..whose "IN CONCERT" renditions of "Get Ready" & "Losing You"..were teamed with The Temptations [And "Papa Was A Rolling Stone from "ALL DIRECTIONS" - I cannot recall the flip of their LP] on that 2-disc set.)

Now, to The BROTHERS TERRANA, I respectfully request of you to forward the following request to the appropriate party:

O'Esteemed Wise One, Harry Weinger, Keeper Of The Flame at Motown, can ya find it in your heart to have THAT 1978 shot grace the cover of ANY future Earth CD compilation ya might have in the pipeline? Mebbe a disc featuring The Aborted Frank Wilson sessions of '74? (Hint-Hint??)

Just my tuppence, folks..

It's not a common picture, I'll admit.

Eddie without a beard...he looks more like Cheech Marin circa 70s'. Ray still had the afro (not a bad thing mind you) and that would be gone by tthe time of the phot shoot for the Grand Slam LP.  Aww shucks, it's all good smile

Ok, if you want to go that route:

A pipe dream:

1. A 2 disc set containing studio outtakes from 1969-1978...mainly 1974.

2. A cd of Rare Earth's 1970 Atlanta Pop Festival set.

3. a 2 cd set of an expanded "In Concert". Disc 1 has the original album. Disc 2 has outtakes, alternates and the full version of Thoughts...an hour long, according to Ray.

4. The completed yet unreleased "Live In Chicago" plus songs from that show but not intened for inclusion on the album: Tobacco Road, Hum Along And Dance

5. A dvd containing all TV performances from 1970-1975...Ed Sullivan, American Bandstand, Midnight Special, Rock Concert and the performance from Hoffstra University in Syracuse...it's where that "edited" live version of "Get Ready" comes from that is all over youtube. Plus someone needs to dig up the footage of the band at the Atlanta Pop Festival from 1970...wherever it is.

Oops, forgot to put my name in there. Who else would talk about such goodies?

I've emailed Mr. Weinger in the past and I doubt he'd be that rude or egocentric.

Yep, Eddie without the beard....alotta my schoolmates (and fellow fans playfully [and affectionaltely] referred to him as "Detective Belker" from that classic GEM of a Cop series on telly : "HILL STREET BLUES"  [R.I.P.])...and the 'fro on Ray just reminded us all of their *true* Salad Days of "MA", The Aborted FRANK WILSON sessions, and all....

As for the individual impersonating H.W.--Methinks ya shouild use yer attempts at humour towards more CONSTRUCTIVE outlets, m8...
