Remembrance Day - CANADA / Veterans Day- UNITED STATES

Today is the day we remember all those who have and still are serving in our armed forces. If not for them we would not be able to do simple things like speaking to each other as we do on this forum......THANK YOU!

Al,

Once again you read my mind, and posted those thoughts here in the forum. I had just returned from a long walk with one of my dogs. I thought, I need to contact my father in-law, Jim. I need to let him know that everyday we value that his efforts as an American soldier and how much those efforts are appreciated. Jim, who is 86 years of age, was a tail-gunner and recently completed his memoirs. Jim is able to recall each mission, often accompanied by a newspaper article. I believe in peace, but the read is truly amazing. I know there are countless others out there who served or are serving that have tails of their own. God Bless them all.

Another thought that came to me was from experiences which occurred at many Rare Earth concerts. I've seen many Vets, usually from the Vietnam era, have a memory, or even a flashback to that time. Many approach the band following their performance and have stories of while during wartime, or sometimes even battle they played Rare Earth. The song I hear they played more often then not was Rare Earth's version of "Get Ready." They meant it as a warning. Seeing these people and how music, in this case the music of Rare Earth, affected them is truly impressive to say the least.

If any members past or present have anything to ad to that, I believe we would all value reading those memories.

God Bless the Vets.

Peace,

Chicago Tommy

Tommy    My father was in the Navy during WW ll aboard the HMCS Nabob an aircraft carrier. It was torpedoed August 22 1944, he was not among the casualties or I would not be here today.Unlike your Father- in law, my Dad did not speak much of the war, your lucky to have those memoirs.   Catch ya later.

Hey Al,

Yes, I am lucky to have a copy of his memoirs, but we are lucky that he, like your father survived. Coincidentally, my father was also serving during WWII o an aircraft carrier. He never spoke much about his life in the service. I've been trying gather information, for my own benefit, but little success. I do remember her had a black & white photo of the aircraft carrier, which I'm also try to locate.

Peace,

Chicago Tommy
