I'm not Ray but I may be able to a few things...it's all going on memory from what Ray has said in the past:
1. On the One Wolrd LP, Ray playes a Black Gibson Les Paul (a black beauty) but thi swas stolen while on tour. 2. For virtually everything else Rare Earth related, save for Hum Along & Dance, ray played the same trusty Fender Stratocaster. For Hum Along & Dance Ray played a rare/unique type of guitar. The name escapes me.
MIKE IS RIGHT ABOUT WHAT HE SAID. THE GUITAR ON "HUM ALONG" WAS A VELENO(CUSTOM,ALL ALUMINUM GUITAR).
"KISS ME AGAIN" WAS MY GIBSON SG THAT I BOUGHT IN 1961 FROM LES PAUL,WHEN HE WAS DEMONSTRATING HIS NEW LINE. THAT'S THE SAME AX I DID ALL MY SESSION WORK WITH, FROM "COOL JERK" ON. WHEN I JOINED R.E. I GOT THE LES PAUL FOR "ONE WORLD". THEN THE STRAT THAT I STILL HAVE TODAY.
I ALSO HAVE A GIBSON 175 THAT I USED ON A COUPLE OF TUNES. A GUILD ACOUSTIC THAT WAS ON "SMILING FACES", AND "NICE TO BE WITH YOU".
A BEAUTIFUL CLASSICAL GUITAR THAT I BOUGHT IN MEXICO.
AT THIS TIME I'M USING TWO CUSTOM AXES THAT WERE MADE BY ED "TOAD" GOETZ. THEY BOTH LOOK KINDA LIKE STRATS....ONE WITH TWO SINGLE COILS AND A HUMBUCKER. THE OTHER HAS THREE HUMBUCKERS. THEY BOTH SOUND FANTASTIC!!!
Been listening to Rare Earth all evening. Brand New World held its own against some of the older tracks and again there's no disputing that Ivan proved himself as a contender. But right now I'm playing Different World and Ray is playing one of his trademark solos on I Got The Feeling. He takes some beating!!
