Lead singer of the 60's group The Classics IV Dennis Yost passed away today. He was 65. The group was best known for songs such as "Spooky" (US#3) "Stormy" (1968, #5) and "Traces" (1969, #2), and "Everyday With You Girl" (1969, #19).
I write this note several months following the great Dennis Yost's passing. One of the most melodic voices of the modern music era. I was fortunate to have purchased all the Classics IV albums... and still enjoy them to this day. Several of my favorites, besides their "classics" included a great rendition of (better than the original!) "Mr. Blue", "Sentimental Laby", "Midnight", "Funniest Thing". Dennis will truly be missed.
Spooky is a good song...Did you know the original was done by the Atlanta Rhythm Section? They did the song "so into you". They did spooky first and it went no where!! They wrote the song! Strange how things go! Well anyway...FYI...
Best Mark M
P.S. Their version can be heard on their Greatest Hits Album
Spooky was first done by The Classics IV. It was a big hit in 1968...#3. It was co written by guitarist James Cobb. Cobb would later join Atlanta Rhythm section and that band covered the song in 1979...#17 on the top 40.
What read must have been wrong....The song was written by a dude in the band (last name) Buie...The Man named Cobb was not mentioned....But your right classic iv did the song in '68 and ARS then re-made it '79...I later found this to be true after i did some research and I was going to post the my mistake....Thanks for clearing that up Mike.....sorry about the wrong info Tommy...I put the cart in front of the horse
