I was talking the other day with my mother on the phone and she told me she was listening to a programme called Womens Hour, now for those of you  outside the U.K. let me explain, this is a daily show broadcast by the BBC and and has, been around since forever, she said that they were interviewing an American singer and she mentioned "your group Rare Earth", of course I was naturally intrigued so I went on to the BBC Radio 4 site hit listen again and all was revealed.......... It was Charlene Oliver who has just had her big hit "I've Never Been To Me" which she has remixed and re issued, and she was just talking about her time at Motown and mentioned "other white acts like Rare Earth".
So R.E. gotm name checked on a British Radio institution that is Womens Hour lol.

If that Charlene song had come out at a different time we might have had a UK No1 on the UK Rare Earth label Richard. What a shame it didn't happen. Same thing with Kiki Dee. I think she'd left Motown before UK Rare Earth was set up?

Nice to see RE being mention over the British airwaves after all this time!!

I have to say Dave, Charlene did get several things wrong in her interview, she claimed she was the first white female to record for Motown, well as we know there were many before her.
She then informed us that the Prodigal label was set up for her, wrong again lol, but overall the interview was an interesting listen. Now would'nt it be good Dave if A Brand New World made it the BBC Radio 2 playlist, now that would be something lol......

For the record, the first white female artist to record for Motown was Debbie Dean.

Interesting fact Martin

I'd have gone for the obvious i.e. Chris Clark followed by Kiki Dee later on. Obviously I need to go back and brush up on my Motown Discography. I don't think I ever heard anything by Debbie Dean.

Debbie Dean had "Don't Let Him Shop Around", the answer record to the Miracles' "Shop Around", released on Motown as long ago as 1961.
