Get Ready in Chicago 74
Permalink

Today I was cleaning out my boxes of casettes that I've had in my garage for 35+ years. And I came across a casette that said "Live in Chicago" I listened to it and it's the real tape of that night that many of you have refered to. I would love to share it with all of you for free. If anyone can help me get it on the web I would be happy to do it. It blew me away. Mark plays a great solo as does Ray and Gil and Eddie. I was really excited to hear it. Now remember it's on a casette that is 34 years old. If you would like to have it posted just tell me how I can do it..... Peter

Youtube would be a great place to put this.

Pete, if you'd be willing to send me the audio...I could put this up on youtube in sections, complete w/pictures...it would have ot be done in sections due to length of course. Now that I think of it, I should put up some Rare Earth songs that I have.

Oh wow, I'm almost salivating. If I may ask, is this the only track you have form the Chicago show or do you have more material. I'm just curious.

Peter, I second the motion to get Mike involved on the case. I'm sure Mike could easily transfer the cassette to MP3 format and then send it to John so we could all listen to it right on the forum. Mike could also go a little further and put it on Youtube or transfer it to CD but only with complete approval of course. I don't believe there is anyone out there more qualified for this job than Mike.(Integrity, honesty, technical knowledge, etc.)

HEY PETE,

THEY ARE RIGHT ABOUT MIKE. HE'S A STAND UP GUY. I FOUND THE "TIGHT AND HOT" CASETTE MUCH THE SAME AS YOU DID LOOKING THROUGH ALL MY OLD REELS AND CASETTES. I SENT IT TO MIKE AND HE TRANSFERRED IT TO CD.
HE'S IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING A COLLECTION OF ALL OF OUR ALBUMS WHICH WILL BE AVAILIABLE ONLY TO THE MEMBERS  ON THIS SITE(FREE OF COURSE).YOU FOUND THE ONE MISSING PIECE IN THE COLLECTION!!
I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE EVERYTHING ON CD,AND I KNOW HE WOULD LOVE TO MAKE COPIES FOR YOU TOO.

RAY

Dave, Jocko and Ray...thank you for the kind words.

Pete's discovery is exciting news, to say the least. However Pete decides to share the recording is up to him. I believe this would make a fantastic part of the project I am working on. If the tape is the entire unreleased album and not just a song or two, then the puzzle will be complete. But this is entirely at Pete's discretion. :) I fully understand if he'd not want to send a 34 yr old tape in the mail.

Pete, is the tape the actual unreleased Live In Chicago album or just "Get Ready" from the unreleased album. Just curious. :)

Mike

 Dear Peter,

Thank you ever so much for this!  I can't wait to hear it!  I love Get Ready, and I especially love the solos( especially yours, of course, because, being a drummer myself, I will get to hear your double bass playing again!).  I also can't wait to hear Ray's guitar solo.

I remember after each Rare Earth album would come out, I couldn't wait for the next one because they always had at least one long track that  gave everyone in the band a solo spot. The cymbal solo in "I know I'm losing you" was one of the greatest because no one that I know of had ever done such a thing before, and I don't think they have, since.

This is so cool!!!!   Thanks a million!!!!!

 Sincerely,
 Steve

p.s. Have any of you seen that someone posted Rare Earth's live performance on the "Midnight Special" on You Tube?  Pete, I remember that like it was yesterday!  I'll never forget you going out into the audience and letting people sing into the mic and thinking "Man! are those people ever lucky!"

Peter, I believe we all agree Mike is definitely the guy to send the "Get Ready" 74 tape to. I don't want to post his contact info here on the forum-but I'm sure Mike will be in touch with you shortly.
I believe Mike sent you a copy of the Harpos 1980 CD a while back. And Peter, Thank you for sharing from the bottom of our hearts. Harpos 1980 is missing "Get Ready" but now we'll have some vintage live "Get Ready" to add along to Harpos 1980.
I for one never gave up hope that more vintage live RE material would surface and now after all these years my dreams are coming true.
The newly surfaced live material, Mike's LP transfer project and Ray's recent sharing all combined make this a very exciting era to be a Rare Earth fan.
For all of us die-hard's we've waited a long time and I for one am thrilled at the events which are now taking shape.

I plan to put this on youtube tonight! In either 3 or 4 parts, me thinks.

Of course, this song will be part of the project as well.

I emailed most of you a brief segment today...Ray's guitar solo.

I'll put the links up as soon as I get it done. For a nearly 35 year old cassette, this sounds great. If we had an official release from the 2 track mixdown masters, the sound would be a stunner. Kudos to Pete for sharing this with us all.

 Hi Mike,

I wasn't among those who were sent a copy of Ray's solo, would it be at all possible for me to be one of the recipients?  Thanks much,
 Steve

Hi Steve,

I didn't have your email. Tell what it is and I'll send the clip :) Same goes for anyone else here.

Folks, I was dead tired last night after work. I worked from 2pm to 2am and since i have to be up by 7am, I opted not to. I'll do it tonight. Saturdays are my "sleep in" days so I'll stay up late to put it on youtube.

First of all, if you have something to say, use your name and tell us who you are please.

Second, re-read my posts. I said this would be put on youtube. You can hear it there. Nobody is being selfish in case that's what you're insinuating.

  Hi Mike,

Thanks so much. You can send it to this one, which is: snl141955@yahoo.com   I deeply, deeply appreciate this!

Two pm to 2 am?  When do you sleep?  I have been there, and I hate that!
I work 2nd shift, and, with this snowstorm pounding us, was afraid I was going to get stuck working a double last nite. It took me forever to get home, and I'm wiped out, so, I can't imagine what you must feel like, having to get up at 7 a.m. today!  You definitely have my sympathy! Just thinking about it hurts.bleh

I have to tell you...I downloaded "Get Ready" from Limewire, and I got ripped off! They edited out about a minute and a half of Pete's drum solo.  It's taken from "20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Rare Earth".  Shame on them!

Anyway...thanks so much, Mike.  I hope you catch up on some sleep over the weekend.

Hiya Steve!

Well, it's been a very busy week. 2 nights I didn't get to sleep until 4:00. Monday night was the worst due to an inner ear infection. That's all cleared up now.

I've spent many late nights working on this project. Normally I get home at 11:00 and may work until 1 or 2. This is all work for the project. I spent over an hour adjusting the EQ and fixing clicks and pops for one song. It wasn't up to my standards. It's been a LOT of work. I hope to have it all wrapped up by the end of March. smile

Snow? Yikes. We've had plenty here in Iowa. It's on record as the ninth worst winter in terms of snowfall. Although my dad says "it ain't like the winter of '79". That one was bad! 2 feet of snow in a day and a half...snowed in for a few days...couldn't go anywhere. Thank goodness you didn't pull a double.

Don't go downloading anything :) You'll have the catalog within a month.

 Hi Mike,

I do not envy you, neither with the inner ear infection, nor your lack of sleep.  That is sheer torture!  I don't get enough sleep, either, and I pay for it dearly. I work 2nd shift myself, and, thankfully, it is an office type job, so I don't get dirty or anything, as I have to come home and go straight to bed, because I automatically wake up at the same time each a.m. which gives me roughly 6 hours of sleep. That's not enough, and it isnt healthy. But, if I don't go straight to bed, I won't even get that!  I am glad you got your ear infection cleared up. I have heard about the pain and suffering involved with those.

We are trying to dig out of this record setting snow storm we had. It snowed for nearly 30 hours straight. It started at around 10 a.m. on Friday, and didnt stop until around 4, yesterday. I couldnt get to work, nor could many of my co- workers, and everything is shut down.  Churches cancelled services--businesses are closed---you name it.  I'd like to invite Al Gore to Shelby. Global warming, eh? weirdface   The sun is brightly shining, as I write, and warmer weather on the way.  Thank Almighty God.

Regarding your snow in '79...we don't have anywhere near 2 feet of snow, but we do have about a foot of it, and, it has immobilized the town, as I mentioned. I can't imagine 2 feet of snow!  That *had* to have been a nightmare!

Regarding the "Anonymous"...LOL...I think we have all done this.  I just did it the other day!aww

Thanks, Mike!  Take care, and I am glad you are feeling better!

   Best regards,
 Steve
