I have now managed to locate the track listing for the album Head to Head by the Other People (Rare Earth 533). [See Nick Zesses & Dino Fekaris]
This listing which originated in Yesterday Today Forever Issue #23 is as follows: 1. A Dream for the Longest Night 2. Open Up My Eyes 3. Good Time Sally 4. Window 5. Now Is the Time 6. Feeling 7. One Is Two 8. Memphis Street 9. Believe In Me 10.Black Hearted Woman Songs 1 to 4 were all written by Tom Baird and were included in the Matrix album.
I have seen conflicting reports on whether Head to Head was ever released. Can anyone confirm this track listing and the group members of the Other People? Also are tracks 1 to 4 identical to the Matrix album or were they re-recorded?
I daresay that, perhaps, the "Head To Head" album *might* have been canceled from release because of the fact that the *bulk* of the songs *did* show up on the "MATRIX" LP, andthe powers-that-be at Motown did *not* want *that* particualr release to compete with the 1972 release featuring Senior Producers Tom Baird, Nick Zesses & Dino Fekaris as an ensemble in their own right.....
Perhaps it *was* for the best, as I was *always* of the opinion that the renditions on that 1972 Eponymous LP by said trio MATRIX were the *superior* ones...
Now, almost 40 years on, mebbe The Esteemed Wise One, Harry Weinger, Keeper of the Flame at Motown *might* consider giving us a listen to what the Other People LP was all about...vis their LOST & FOUND series.. (Hint-Hint??)
According to the Motown Session Logs, the first four tracks WERE the recordings later issued on the Matrix LP.
"Feeling" should be titled "The Feeling".
I can't find log entries for Other People recordings of "Black Hearted Woman" or "One Is Two". Mike Campbell wrote and recorded a song called "Black Hearted Woman", and the Power Of Zeus wrote and recorded a song called "One Is Two", that's the closest I can come. There are log entries for all the other titles.
There's no surviving Motown paperwork to suggest "Head To Head" was ever released.
