It was the late 70's early 80's Rare Earth was playing in Iliinois. It was was a collection of 60's artists including Tommy James and many other artists of that Era.Rare Earth was the first group ready to go,Peter didn't like the conditions.. weather was a factor, they disassembled there equipment and came back as the final group.I'll never forget peter's brother came back playing a white double bass drums and Peter playing a red clear double bass drums..they brought the house down...Rare Earth should ALWAYS be the final act
Thanks for this bit of news. I dint know Peter had a brother who was also a drummer. I really need to buy his book!
I don't know this for certain, but, I think tht Pete probably the fastest double bass in 1969-1974(?)
I know there were not that many double bass dummers in rock at the time. Ginger Baker, Clive Bunker( Jethro Tull), to name a couple, but, in spite of Baker's' arrogance, he is/was not the ''worlds greatest drummer", and most definitely did not have feet as fast as Pete's.
I think Pete should have received much more credit than he did. He was also one of the first drummers who was also lead singer! Eat your heart out Phil Collins
That was my feeling too Ralph. I recall from Peter's book that Phil was their Road Manager for a while.
Its the other brother that I recall from Peter's book more vividly. The older half brother called Paul. He used to ridicule Peter when he was getting into music, suggesting he should get a proper job that paid. Bet he's not so smug now!
Phil definitely played drums. I remember going to visit him once back in the day with my dad and Phil was playing Earth,Wind & Fire. I was instantly hooked and went out and bought the record.
In the early 1980's before Peter left the band one of Pete's brothers was on the road with the band. He used to come out and sit behind the kit while Pete took center stage during "Celebrate". I have also seen Eddie sit behind the kit during "Celebrate" at other shows. Jocko D
